Gameplay

Jump into the action and blast your way through hordes of demons in a bid to set the highest speed run record for flying through levels with guns like a coked-up Shadow the Hedgehog. This game is an insane amount of fun and if you are a big fan of the speedrunning community and their works, this is without a doubt the challenge for you. Let’s get into it.

The unholy hybrid baby of Doom (2016), Trackmania and Super Meat Boy, this game truly pushes the envelope in what it asks you to pull off. If you have ever seen those Titanfall 2 gauntlet speed runs where they do the whole level in like 15 seconds, this is the same vibe. It is a no holds barred game that loads you up with guns and has you trying to run, jump and slide through enemies, platforming, and traps as fast as you possibly can.

Race against the clock as you wield devastating weapons and some impressive powers. Now, that might sound like it’s a game that’s only designed for the hardcore speedrunners in the gaming community, and I understand that sentiment but don’t worry. Warstride Challenges is actually a very inclusive and accessible game that tries its best to teach you the skills you need, and providing you with the tools to play it.

Instead of just leaving you to your fate of never getting into the game, they have given the players a Slow-Mo function that lets you take things at a much more reasonable pace. I’ll be honest, I’m the type of gamer who sometimes struggles to get into harder games that require a lot of skill and practice, and I found their attitude to helping me break the learning curve really refreshing.

Visuals

This game looks so good! It looks a lot like DOOM but maintains this bright, fun, and energetic art style that keeps you engaged all the way through. It’s like how Destiny 2 has a lot of really nice uses of contrasting colors that make everything a bit more fantastical and magical, but still maintains the gore and brutality that we like to see.

Community Support

Oh, my days, this game is community supported. That’s right, children. Christmas came twice this year. If you were worried that well over 200 levels wasn’t enough, the developers are adding in a ‘build your own levels and share them’ function, which cranks the gameplay value into impossible numbers. If you weren’t excited about this before, you definitely should be now.
