There's something oddly satisfying about saying, 'Smash Ball.' Hopefully, this upcoming multiplayer sports game will have the gameplay satisfaction to match its loaded verbal emission. So, what is Smash Ball, and why does it matter? It appears to be a brand new sport taking the future by storm.

Of course, like in all far-future games, competitive sports are all played by mechs. These will be the players in this intense sporting affair. Or what looks to be an amalgamation of dodgeball and handball. First impressions, and we still can't quite tell what the game is about, but that's what we're here for - to introduce the weird and wonderful world of Smash Ball!

Mash 'n' Smash!

Let's take a moment to describe the sport of Smash Ball. The concept is relatively simple - players will smash balls across a narrow battle arena aiming for a goal. The opposing player will defend and attempt the same thing, and the highest number of goals wins after the time limit has elapsed. That seems a bit bland, right? Hold your horses, there.

Smash Ball is played by mechs in a future littered with advanced combat inventory. It wouldn't be right not to feature some of these little numbers in the arena, right? The game allows players to leverage bombs, rockets, and more to clear a path to victory, adding more strategic elements into the game. Smash Ball suddenly got that much more exciting!

It's not only the sporting element that makes up gameplay, too. Smash Ball features career management mechanics where you'll play for reward. Becoming successful in the game means upgrading mechs, gathering new inventory, managing teams, growing fanbases, and much more. It's a pretty complete game for something that would seem so elementary mechanically!

While we've not managed to play the game yet, others have played in the test. First impressions have been pretty decent, saying that Smash Ball is a holistically entertaining game. It's easy-to-learn and hard-to-master, offering an engaging multiplayer sports experience for casual players and hardcore.

Move over Rocket League; there's a new game in town! Suppose you were describing the core gameplay to someone who hadn't been exposed to the media around Smash Ball.
