Another year passes, and Dragon Ball: The Breakers would seemingly fit into the traditional recycled fighter offered annually. Interestingly, this is not the case. The game is taking a whole new approach to being an acolyte of the survival horror genre. That seems bizarre, given that the franchise is based around fighting and competition.
However, those familiar with the TV series could piece together how this would work. Tragedies befell many cities of the series and pit a fitting scene for survival horror. Dragon Ball: The Breakers has surprised everyone, but the fresh take on the series could rekindle interest in the game franchise. So let's take a further look into this announcement!
Don't Go Breakin' My Heart.
It's hard to set the scene for Dragon Ball: The Breakers without spoiling the series. So if you haven't seen it and would like to catch up, I'll try and limit what happens here. Basically, a villain here known as 'the Raider' needs to march through towns, sucking the lifeforce out of every being to gain the immense power he seeks. Naturally, everyone is trying to escape that horrendous fate.
'Dragon Ball: The Breakers' puts you in the shoes of the show's minor side characters such as Oolong and Bulma. You'll be able to play as one of the 7-civilians whose sole task is to escape the city being ransacked by 'the Raider.' Players will use each character's unique abilities to avoid getting caught, or else - you'll face certain death.
The premise of 'Dragon Ball: The Breakers' is a significant change to what the franchise typically offers in video games. Honestly, it's refreshing to see something different. The game looks good, albeit straightforward mechanically, and gives a fresh take on gameplay without straying outside the series. Never have we seen a Dragon Ball game that doesn't feature the main protagonists, either!
Whether Dragon Ball: The Breakers turns out to be good or not, it's exciting to see franchise games evolving into a different genre. It's a clever and creative take - let's face it - another fighting game would have been met with a series of yawns and groans. Let's hope this one sparks a new wave of Dragon Ball games!
It's a Z Kind of Day
Viewing the mechanics of 'Dragon Ball: The Breakers' - it's a carbon copy of Dead by Daylight in a Dragon Ball skin. That's OK, though - it's not the first anime franchise to do something like this. Quite frankly, it's a marvelous adaptation using a part of the Dragon Ball Z story that's largely untold. Let's develop the characters that we don't see in the TV series too much.
The plight of the civilians during a raider massacre does bring out the horrific side to the franchise. However, it seems these childhood blows are softened by the humorous animations that make up each character. It will be intriguing to see the response to this game when it's released. But for now - it will undoubtedly peak Dragon Ball fans' attention.
