Ultimate Spider-Man: Limited Edition is a video game originally released in 2005 and is based on the Spider-Man comic books. Swing through the streets of Manhattan and complete missions as both Spider-Man and Venom as you experience both the protagonist's story and the antagonist's one. Even now the game still lives up to its positive reviews from back when it was released, boasting both fun gameplay and a unique comic book art style that many players are sure to appreciate.

Swinging through an open world

If you’ve played Marvel’s Spider-Man game on PS4, you've likely spent hours taking advantage of the swinging mechanic because of how fun it is to use. Just like Marvel's Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man offers the same ability to swing around and explore the environment, though admittedly the mechanic is slightly less polished than its modern counterpart. Nonetheless, it's still great fun to use and works like a charm.

The open world of Ultimate Spider-man is set in Manhattan and though it’s far from a 1:1 recreation of the real city, the same kind of aesthetic is very much there and helps you feel immersed in the environment. You’ll even get to explore parts of Queens!

Collectibles and progressing the game

Various collectibles are hidden about the open world, adding an extra challenge to the game alongside the story. You've got landmark tokens, comic book covers, and even secret tokens hidden away in all kinds of nooks and crannies, so be sure to check every corner as you explore the world.

In addition to these collectibles, you’ve also got things called city goals which are challenges you have to complete to progress the story mode. You’ll see markers pointing you in the right direction for these, so don’t worry about getting lost and losing track of them!

Two playable characters

As mentioned earlier, the game’s story follows both the superhero Spider-Man and the supervillain Venom. You’ll get to switch between the two playable characters throughout the game, gaining access to different mechanics and abilities depending on the character you’re controlling – Spider-Man uses web swings and acrobatic attacks whereas Venom jumps super high and uses much more brutal attacks. The two gameplay styles keep things interesting and are part of what makes the game so great, so have fun with them!
