If you’re a handy kind of person, you may have dreamed of being able to turn that handiness to something useful in game form. Toy Tinker Simulation fills that role, by allowing you to repair and refurbish different toys and put them in your toy museum. Currently the beta version only allows you to do this with 10 different toys, but the full version to be released soon will have many more toys available for you to sand, paint, and put back together. Here’s a look at Toy Tinker Simulation, and whether it’s worthy of a place in your collection.

Graphics are ho-hum

The highest resolution for the game is 1920x1080p which is fine, but as monitors have grown in their ability with 4k and 6k monitors, it seems a little outdated. Refresh rate is limitless on the game however, which makes up for the lower resolution for the game.

As you progress through the game, the graphics aren’t ugly, but also aren’t anything to write home about. There’s some detail in the background, such as scratched up metal on an overhead rack, and more detail on the toys themselves, but nothing really exciting.

Solid tutorial

The game offers an initial tutorial, which does an excellent job of guiding you through the game. It shows you where everything is, how to fix a toy, and gives you a clear idea of how the repair process works. The sound effects as you repair the first object (a train) is satisfying, and leaves you with a good idea of what to do.

Limited functionality

Some other frustrations that come up in the game is how limited it feels. You’re unable to manipulate toys for a better camera angle when taking a photo, or spray paint the lower half of a toy while painting. While everything still magically gets done, it feels limited in how much you can do.

The game is similar to Diesel Brothers truck building simulator in how you can put things together, but lacks the depth and feel of other games. This may also be because the available game is in beta. The full version is yet to be released, and will feature many more toys. It’s possible that these current issues will all be resolved in the full version.

This game might be of interest to those who enjoy building things, or just want a relaxing game to spend time on. If you’re hoping to be wowed by amazing graphics, puzzles, or performance however, Toy Tinker Simulation has a long way to go.

8

This is a cute point and click adventure as it is that will help you unwind after a busy day, but needs less hand holding and more complex toys to repair if it is truly going to shine. This may be fixed in the full version later down the road, but that’s up to the developers.

Pros:

  • Interesting take on simulators
  • Decent tutorial
  • Cute sound effects

Cons:

  • Boring graphics
  • Limited functions
