Trying to get back to life part of your childhood watching cartoons, Generator Rex: Agent of Providence is your game, especially if you liked playing games like Ben 10: Alien Force. Released by Activision in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, and 3DS. It is an action, hack and slash type game that will surely bring back some memories when using the abilities of Rex while fighting and completing the missions to help him save the world and hopefully win the affection of Dr. Holiday.
About the background story
For those who had never watched the T.V. show as kids, in the game we’ll be playing as Rex a 16 years old boy who lost his memory after an industrial incident spreading Nanites, a type of nanobot that mutated humans all around the world turning them into monsters called E.V.O.s, however our main character despite being one himself is able to control the Nanites and willingly transform his body into several mechanical weapons that will use to fight against the monsters as an agent of Providence.
Diving into the adventure
The game consists of nine different levels that could go from fighting while sky diving or riding a motorcycle, to run around cities in the world defeating waves of enemies while dodging the stage main boss. And believe me, you won’t be disappointed when it comes to final bosses, during the stages you will have to fight around seven different bosses if you don’t count that you have to defeat some of them more than once.
When you love shape-shifting characters
One of the best features about the gameplay is to find out the best combination of abilities either if it is changing the shape of our legs to be able to jump higher and reach platforms, turning our arms into many types of weapons such as blades or cannons to bring down titanic bosses or simply getting rid of the hordes of mutant monsters the way that you prefer combining long and short-ranged attacks.
Upgrade skills
If you are the kind of player that worries about getting bored of using the same combos over and over, it won’t be a problem since you will be able to upgrade your abilities by spending the points you earn throughout each level, giving the possibility of adding new movement to your already existing skills, which is going to improve the combo strikes and save your experience from feeling dull when using them.
I personally enjoyed it due to all the memories that it brought back about one of my favorite tv shows. However, for those who never watched it, it could end up being a different story since the game is based on a T.V. show for kids, you might feel it a little bit childish at times and not so challenging, especially for the lack of puzzles that could challenge your mind and the linear playability.
Pros:
- Very entertaining
- Variety of monsters and final bosses
- Easy to get addicted to the fighting system
- Great skill upgrade system
Cons:
- The game would only take around 3 to 4 hours to complete
- Not really challenging
- A bit childish to those who didn’t have the opportunity to watch the show
