Sometimes games are carried thanks to having a really iconic lead character, and sometimes it is all about the gameplay itself, but when it comes to this game it is both that make it a unique experience. Agent 47 is one of the most strangely iconic video game characters of all time. He doesn't have strange armor, a colorful suit, nor an iconic weapon or haircut, in fact, he doesn't even have hair. He is meant to be as blank as possible to best blend in his job. But these games do not blend in with all the other games, as they are quite unique, and today we'll talk about the Hitman HD Trilogy, released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. So, let's get started!

About the game

As you may have guessed by now, Hitman HD Trilogy is a compilation of three classic titles where we get to play Agent 47. These Three titles are Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts, and Hitman: Blood Money, leaving out the first entry in the series Hitman Codename 47, which is still to this day a PC exclusive. But even without including the first title, these three games make up for over 70 missions -or contracts as they are referred to in the game- in over 40 different locations. And these locations are incredible, going through cities like Hong Kong and Paris.

The basic, core concept of all Hitman games is pretty much the same, you're a hired assassin and have to take the contracts that get to you. Rarely in these contracts will you only kill one person, but several objectives. To do this most effectively, you'll want to see stealth and hide and sneak your way through each mission. One key element of Hitman games is the concept that the best hiding spot is in plain sight, by disguising yourself with the clothing of some NPC characters you'll forcefully acquire.

Problems from the past

We have to keep in mind that even though these editions have HD visuals and overall enhanced quality, they still suffer from any issue the original games had. So if for instance, you happen to find the gameplay of Hitman 2 to be outdated, there's nothing you can do. This is a remastered HD edition and not a remake.

The issue with this is that it was released soon after Hitman Absolution was released, and that game was a big step forward for the Hitman franchise, effectively bringing it back to the public eye. And now that games like Splinter Cell have improved a lot, stealth has come a long way. These old games are exactly that, old games. With all the bugs and glitches from the classic days still present here.

Comparing Hitman HD Trilogy with Hitman Absolution would be an unfair move, as the games included in this remaster are way older, and gaming, in general, has evolved a lot ever since. While there is a general improvement in the quality of the game experience visually and in the sound department, the gameplay still has some issues and feels outdated. However, the sheer amount of content in this HD trilogy and the general quality of these games are completely playing.
