UFC Undisputed 2010 gives you the opportunity to not only play a sports fighting game, but also make you feel like you’re watching it on television. The announcers, detailed graphics, and amazingly detailed game mechanics all come together to make this a fight simulator that really pops.

If you love boxing, MMA, and other fighting sports you’ll love how close UFC Undisputed 2010 brings you to the real thing.

Spectacular Game Mechanics

One of the nice features of this game is how well the game mechanics work. When your character lands a clean punch, it feels solid and satisfying. This latest version of the game also adds some awesome new touches, such as the ability to use the cage as part of the fight. This adds a nice touch of realism, and that along with the announcers excitement really adds to the feel of the game. Another detail that really adds to the feel of mixed martial arts is just how many moves there are in so many different styles. You have tons of different options, which makes it truly feel like an MMA fight rather than simply a fighter game.

Repetition of lines becomes annoying

At first, UFC Undisputed has dazzling voice acting lines that excite and amaze players. You feel your chest swell with pride when you hear your fighter’s comments to the news media, or catch the commentary from Joe Rogan. The comments seem really fresh and realistic, but after you have played the game for a while you begin to hear the same lines on repeat. This repetition really drags the freshness out of the game, and makes it feel that much less realistic.

Overly complicated controls

This isn’t the first time developers THQ has created a UFC game, but they all have something in common. UFC Undisputed 2010 has the same insanely difficult controls as UFC Undisputed 2009. If you’re already familiar with the first game in this series, this won’t be a problem. If this is your first time playing the series however, be prepared for a steep learning curve. There’s a whole host of different commands, ranging from height modifiers to the usual punches and kicks. While there is a tutorial to help, it’s not very intuitive and makes learning difficult.

Huge Variety of different modes

Although the game has some issues, you’ll find no shortage of modes to keep you busy. Multiplayer lets you play against others, and if you like the idea of starting a player from scratch, career mode makes you feel like you’re really molding that player. Once you get hold of the controls, this game has a lot going for it, and it’s possible to sink hours of gameplay into just enjoying it.

UFC Undisputed 2010 has a lot going for it. The few annoying aspects of it keep it from being a perfect 10, but if you like UFC and are hoping for something just as good or better than the first in the series, UFC Undisputed 2009, this game nails it.
