When the genre first appeared it seemed a little strange, the idea of just playing card games on a computer made little sense. You could just go ahead and play the physical card game right? Wrong, It does not apply to many of the card games that are made as video games. Being turned into a video game unlocks a big, new dimension of possibilities and effects not possible in real life. These help in much more than just enhancing the experience, but it’s also a way to add mechanics to the game. The game we’ll be covering right now is called Aces and Adventures, it’s developed by Triple.B.Titles, and it’s funded with the help of Kickstarter. So, let’s talk about this game and see what is this game all about!

About the game

Aces and Adventures is at its core an RPG deck-building game, but it is heavily centered around some kind of poker-powered combat mechanic. And if that by itself doesn’t sound interesting enough, the game is heavily inspired by Norse and Middle Eastern Mythology, and we’ll have to go through a journey to save the Life Tree from the evil that’s trying to destroy and control it all.

In this world, there are three stone tables in a circle in the middle of some misty woods, and they’ll form a portal to a world drawn directly from ancient Norse and Middle Eastern Mythology. And going through these stones will give you access to different worlds, where you can fight the evil forces.

Saving Cardrasil, the Life Tree, is a task you're going to do one card at a time. Each of the cards you use is made from the very leaves plucked from her branches. Grow your powers and learn the best strategies to defeat your enemies. In order to achieve this, you'll need to gather cards and grow them into powerful suits, and then combine them with other cards to create even more powerful ones.

A little too far?

The thing with creating a new card game is that it always has at least a little learning curve that could end up being too rough for players. Games like Gwent have a much tougher curve than games like Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duels, because the latter one has a huge advantage of being available for decades as a physical card game.

The mechanics in Aces and Adventures are a bit too complicated even when compared with the advanced Yu-Gi-Oh! mechanics. It combines RPG elements, with multiple card types, with all the basic complexity of a poker game. It can all be a little too overwhelming, especially if you bought into the game thinking it's more of an RPG than an extremely complex card game.
