Zombies Ate My Neighbors is an action-packed monster-mashing shoot-em-up that has slithered out of the SNES and into the Genesis. One or two players fight Zombies and other famous movie monsters that have overrun 48 lengthy labyrinthine levels and seven hidden bonus levels!

Tongue's Horror Show

As in the low-budget horror flicks to which this game pays tribute, the story line is simple and sinister. Dr. Tongue has brought a bunch of B-movie monsters back to life. Now you must get them before they eat you, and your neighbors.

ProTip: If a Blob slimes you, you're damaged but temporarily invincible.

On each level, you have to use your head (if you don't lose it first). You must save at least one potential victim, such as a Cheerleader, a Baby, or a Backyard Barbecuer, or the game's over. You start with 10 victims per level, but that per-level total drops when a monster eats a victim.

Bazookas can blow through cracks in walls, bust through weak spots in hedges, and knock down doors.

The monster-whacking weapons are imaginative. Your standard sidearm is an Uzi Water Gun. Additional creature-beaters include Tomatoes, Soda Six-Packs, and Crosses. The game even supports Sega's six-button controller, which makes cycling through weapons a breeze. However, the regular Genesis control pad can make you stumble as you try to switch weapons at critical moments.

  • Clown Decoys are best against Chain Saw Maniacs.
  • Save life-restoring First Aid Kits until you absolutely need them.
  • Silverware and Plates destroy Mummies.

When you're in a jam, try to find Potions. You can score temporary invincibility as the "Ghost Kid," or become a teenage werewolf.

Monster Sights and Sounds

Zombies features dynamite graphics. Gillmen, Pod People, Chain Saw Maniacs, Werewolves, Mummies, and Flying Saucermen ought to dredge up major monster-movie memories.

Zombies' cool sounds will give you the creeps. The undead babble incoherently, werewolves howl ferociously, and your neighbors cut loose horrific screams.

You use a great-looking 3/4 overhead view to run and gun through the beasts. The game's crisp controls enable you to weave through the monstrous hordes with great open-field moves. You can even pull football moves, like cutbacks and body fakes.

Warning! Tourists become Werewolves after dark.

Monsters in Your Socket

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is more fun than a casket full of corpses. If you want to brush up on your monster lore without the gore, Zombie out with this game.

Game Reviews

It's time to rise up from your graves, lowbrow monster movie fans! If you're a horror-film buff who thinks Frankenstein and Dracula are too "classic," and Alien and The Terminator are too high-tech, Konami's got an SNES game for you!

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is an action-packed, monster- mashing shoot-em-up. One or two players shoot, scoot, and grab the loot as Zombies and other cartoony horrors chase you through 48 lengthy labyrinthine levels, plus seven hidden bonus levels!

The Little Game of Horrors

As in the low-budget horror flicks to which this game pays tribute, the story line is simple and sinister. The weird Dr. Tongue has brought a bunch of B-movie monsters back to life, and they've infested your neighborhood. You're a teenage monster-hunter who must eradicate the fiends before they consume your neighbors, and then you must... err, lick Tongue.

ProTip: Here's an oldie: Study the opening demos. They're chock-full of valuable zombie- zapping strategies and tactics.

Creatures Featured

Arcade veterans may recognize the hoary skeleton of Zombies. It's Robotron, a fast-paced shooter noted for its X-over- head perspective, 360-degree kill zone, and overwhelming odds against survival.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors evolved with those features intact, except that its graphics are dynamite. You'll get a major kick out of the nicely detailed, cartoony sprites, which represent just about every sci-fi/slasher/horror film ever shown on the silver screen.

Naturally, the Zombies take center stage. They're everywhere. But Gillmen, Pod People (who look like you), Chainsaw Maniacs, Evil Dolls, Mummies, and bug-eyed Spacemen will revive fond memories of such late-night TV fare as The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Flying Saucer Men from Mars.

If a Blob slimes you, you're damaged, but also temporarily Invincible.

Zombie's sounds are slick and sick. Creepy creatures babble incoherently, werewolves howl ferociously, and your neighbors cut loose with horrific screams whenever they become Zombie feed.

The old-fashion, melodramatic background music is campy, but catchy.

Monster-Mashing Moves

The pix and the sounds aren't the only things that make Zombies a winner. The game's crisp controls enable you to stop and turn on a dime (or some slime). Your characters are swift, and they can weave through the monstrous hordes with great open-field moves by using cutbacks and body fakes.

Your unusual weapons are imaginative. They're mostly nonviolent objects, until you use them against monsters. For instance, your standard side arm is an Uzi water gun, which squirts monster-zapping sprays of H20. Along the way you find Tomatoes, Soda Six-Packs, Crosses, and Clown Balloon Decoys. A Bazooka is the only concession to Army Surplus freaks. An easy-to-use inventory display enables you to quickly cycle through your cache of weapons and gear.

  • Bazookas can blow through cracks in walls, bust through weak spots in hedges, and knock down doors. As a teenage werewolf, you can do the same.
  • Don't panic! Save life- restoring First Aid Kits until you absolutely need them.
  • Silverware and Plates destroy Mummies.
  • Destroying Snakeoids on Level 18 reveals Skeleton Keys.

Potions are primo protection. You can score temporary invincibility as the "Ghost Kid" or recharge your life meter. You can also turn yourself into a temporary teenage werewolf, which enables you to bust down doors, break walls, and destroy all monsters.

Don't loose Your Head

In this game, the prize doesn't necessarily go to the quick fingered. Strategy is also paramount, so you must learn to keep your head (and your other body parts) about you as the monsters continuously chase your tail. On each level, you must save at least one member of a motley bunch of suburbanites, such as a Cheerleader, a Baby, and a Backyard Barbecuer, or the game's over.

You start out with 10 suburbanites per level, but that per-level total drops every time a monster eats a victim. Moreover, the potential victims are usually surrounded by mind-bending, maze-like terrain. Passwords make the challenge easy to swallow, but you only get three lives.

  • Score 40,000 points and save 10 victims to earn an extra life.
  • Warning! Tourists become Werewolves after dark.

Your parents may have thought you were rotting your mind, but now all that trivial monster lore you've absorbed through the years takes on tactical value. For instance, Werewolves abhor silver, and Blobs hate anything cold.

It's a Graveyard Smash

If you went to the drive-in just to watch the movie...okay, you're lame...but at least you're someone who can best appreciate the spirit of this game. You'll have a ghoulishly good time. Zombies Ate My Neighbors is one of the best things to happen since...well, Zombies ate my neighbors!

A great spoof of all the classic horror movies comes alive in this hot cart for the Genesis. Remember the days of the B-horror flicks? They were simple low budget films that had lots of guts and determination. This cart captures all the kooky stories and characters such as a giant baby, killer dolls, and monstrous spiders. Over 54 levels include all the popular monsters and the craziest situations you could imagine. Even if horror flicks aren't your thing, you'll scream for more Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

The screen layout is like Gauntlet IV (with a black area showing your items). I tend to prefer it that way! Like the Super NES version, this is an excellent game for one or two players, loaded with references to old horror movies!

  • Manufacturer: Konami
  • Machine: Super NES
  • Theme: Action
  • No. of Levels: 45+

Ahhhhh! It's an invasion of the Zombies and Giant Babies! Konami has brought the once forgotten movies to life again in their new action cart: Zombies Ate My Neighbors. The cast of characters includes Chainsaw Man, Green Creature, Aliens, Evil Dolls, Red Blobs and, of course, Zombies.

You are Zeke (love the 3-D glasses) or Julie, two humans pitted against the strange collage of enemies. Armed with a cross between household staples and military bazookas, destroy the invaders - using whatever's available! Remember to rescue your neighbors - if they're killed it's game over!

Konami knows a good game (like Cybernator) when they see it, and getting Zombies from LucasArts was a brilliant move! This game is a blast to play and provides hours of fun - especially with two players! Spotting all the parodies of old horror movies just adds to the fun! Add eerie music and you have a winner!

ZAMN is an instant favorite for me. The graphics are fantastic with lot of attention to detail and some hilarious enemy characters. The music is also a masterpiece with great stereo effects and fitting themes. There not too many bosses but when they appear they're BIG! Great game play and killer amount of levels.

9

Konami does it again! With humorous, movie-like action, this cart looks and plays like a winner! I especially enjoy the way you turn into a monster and run after your enemies. The music is great and the control of the characters can't be beat. I thought I was watching an old horror flick when played it. Fun is the word!

Another great cart from Konami. This adds to the few horror games out there and really shows off the humor in horror movies. The characters have a vague familiarity to famous movie "stars" and their parodies are well done. To top it off, there is a two-player mode along with great graphics and control.

  • Action
  • 45+ levels

Remember all those great late-night horror movies? It's time to relive every one of them in Zombies Ate My Neighbors! In this over-head-perspective shooter, one or two people can play as the only hope of an Earth overrun by a variety of monsters! From giant babies to body snatchers, this is one game that will scare the pants off you!

Zombies Ate My Neighbors, known as Zombies in Europe and Australia due to some censorship issues, is a popular game released in 1993 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platforms. The game was a run and gun video game originally developed after a bunch of horror films from the 50s until the 80s. The published of the game was Konami, well known today for the football simulator called Pro Evolution Soccer.

The story follows Zeke and Julie, the protagonists of the game, as they fight with different monsters holding lots of kinds of weapons. There are a total of over 55 top-down levels and the two main characters have to rescue the civilians in each of the worlds.

Due to its horror elements, the game received the above-mentioned censorship, and became a cult classic years after the installment was published. Although the game was popular, it was not as good as the game before it; no sequels were published afterwards.

There are two playable characters, Zeke and Julie, but the player can only choose one of them. However, both of them can also be chose in the two-player mode. Their job is to navigate neighborhoods, malls, pyramids, haunted castles and other places and to destroy horror-movie monsters, including warewolves, vampires, demonic babies, evil dolls and, obviously, zombies.

In all the levels the final aim of the two players is to rescue the surviving neighbors. When this happens, a door opens and the player can advance to the next level. However, the game is not as easy as it sounds, and sometime is frightening as well. All the enemies in the game can kill neighbors upon only a touch, and therefore they can't be saved anymore. The minimum number of neighbors that need to be saved in order for the level to be passed is one. If the player loses all of his lives and all the neighbors in the stage are killed, the game ends.

A movie based on the game was announced, is currently in development and seems to be on its way to being released in 2011 or 2012.

Many European countries were among the ones deciding to censor the game. Therefore the name was changed to Zombies and some elements from the original release were removed.

The version of the game for the SNES was popular, and received an average rating of 8.6 from five critics on GameSpot. No less than 861 users (at the time of the review) rated the game for a final score of 8.7 out of 10.

Zombies have invaded your neighborhood and are trying to eat your neighbors. Try to save the neighbors, cheerleaders, and babies in 55 levels of action and adventure. Battle zombies, mummies, evil dolls, lizard men, vampires, and giant ants with a wide range of weapons including Uzi squirt guns, exploding soda, bazookas, weed whackers, and ancient artifacts. If you have a hard time getting through one of the levels, have a friend come over and help you out in the Two-Player mode. Save your neighborhood from a terrible fate in ZOMBIES ATE MY NEIGHBORS.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a run and gun 'horror' video game, that was produced by LucasArts for the Sega Mega Drive/Sega Genesis and Super NES platforms published by Konami. The game was as a comical tribute to both classic and schlocky horror films of the 1950s and 1960s.

its not hard 3 trys n i beat top score! its a fun old game i wish i still had around my house!

Konami has picked up the rights to this fine game. Once entitled Monsters, it is being renamed with the catchy title: Zombies Ate My Neighbor. This cart is loaded to the top with action and game play similar to Smash TV. You fight against bizarre creatures that range from psycho toys to crazed clowns on a rampage. This seemingly lighthearted game is in fact quite spooky!

As for looks, this game's pictures speak for themselves. The game is top-notch in almost every way. The main bosses of this game are a sight to see, and most players will feel as if they've entered their worst nightmare. Hopefully Konami will release this game soon!
