Undungeon

Undungeon is an action RPG developed by Laughing Machines and published by tinyBuilds. The game is unreleased but is expected in the second quarter of 2021, which would mean a release before the end of June. With the hype from the indie community and fans of tinyBuild, Undengeon is shaping up to be a very entertaining title. At first glance, it might remind veteran players of older RPG games that ran on arcades, with a mixture of more modern user interface and mechanics.

Old Looks, New Concepts

tinyBuild isn’t particularly known for its RPG games, but as they venture into this new genre with Laughing Machines, players can expect new ideas to permeate the title. The combat style chosen is real-time action instead of the turn-based model other RPGs adopt. While we have little to no information about the entirety of the combat system, we know that there are ranged and melee combat modes. One of the things that look promising and interesting is that attaching organs to your character provides him with different abilities and load-outs.

Players will explore multiple levels, in search of items, experience, and consumables. Loadouts and resource management will likely play a part in the game, as the existence of runes that alter abilities, and gameplay has been confirmed. From what is available the game has several levels, in multiple worlds, with hordes of enemies to be defeated. The vast world-building and distinctive areas might offer notable NPC’s and characters throughout exploration.

Even if the game seems heavily reliant and focused on its combat, and actual gameplay, the story seems interesting and filled with repercussions. For instance, the mixture of time traveling and different dimensions creates a ripple effect in the game, which means your actions will echo into the next time you revisit an area or planet.

Great Shift

Undungeon, tells the story of the great shift, a reality-altering event where various planets crashed into another in a catastrophe so large that it shattered the very fabric of reality, time and space, to a point of seemingly no repair. As a part of the interdimensional group Herald’s Undercover Bay, you are sent to a far-off planet tasked with repairing the damage done by the great shift.

The retro feeling of old arcades is accompanied by a title that opts to have this pixelated aesthetic to it. The game looks wonderful, beautiful, colorful, and the character designs are amazing to look at. The visual experience is enhanced when you learn that everything you see inside the game is hand-drawn. It is an entertaining experience with visuals alone, but the gameplay has a lot of potential.
