After spending some considerable time with Trail of Ayash in its demo form, I have to say that this could be one of the surprise hits or hidden gems of the year. This is an action RPG game with a fantastic native American themed story with a bit of mysticism and darkness about it. I was in on this game right from the moment I read the description as it is a setting we do not get too often in games. Keep on reading to see why this is a game that simply has to be on your must play list.

Ayash, The Lone Warrior

As I said, Trail of Ayash is a game that has a native American or indigenous if you prefer setting and I could not be any more into the story here. We play as a character called Ayash who was betrayed by someone in his tribe and he now walks alone. You can try and redeem him or seek out revenge, it is up to you how you go about things in the game. Much of the story and missions are based on legends and themes that are very native American themed which I love. For me, I have to play the redemption route as that is just so much more appealing to me.

An Evil Is Brewing

I have to say that playing as a character like Ayash and just trying o earn redemption or even seek our revenge would have been enough for me. However, the Trail of Ayash also has a bit of the supernatural about it as something strange and evil is brewing in the world. Evil creatures such as wear wolves, wendigos, blood flies and more are becoming more and more spread throughout the land! I love this stuff and the creature designs that I have seen so far are fantastic! This is such a great idea for a video game and one that I am not sure has actually been done before.

Not All Tribes Are Equal

Trail of Ayash is a 3rd person action and adventure RPG. You will be roaming the lands, taking on various missions, and moving the story forward. However, while you will be fighting all kinds of creepy and scary monsters, this game also has you fighting against other tribes. From tribes that see you as a rival to more sinister tribes that dabble in the dark arts and cannibalism, the people of this world are just as dangerous as the monsters. I feel that the 3rd person combat is going to be very exciting as we explore and fight in this world.

Becoming Your Own Hero

In Trail of Ayash, you actually have a lot of say in the way Ayash not only looks, but plays as well. You can decide what he wears by selecting gear for his body, hands, feet, legs, and head. You can also give him various advantages with rings and amulets as well. You can have a melee weapon as well as a ranged weapon too. Experimenting with the different types of equipment that you earn as you play is going to be a huge part of the fun of playing as Ayash.

What more can I say about this game? I know that it may look a little rough around the edges in some places, but when it comes to games that I feel could steal the show in 2023, this is certainly on my list. Trail of Ayash is an action RPG style of game and one that has one of the most interesting and compelling stories I have had the pleasure to experience in a very long time.

The monsters and supernatural elements of the story are something I really like
Redemption or revenge? You decide which path to take
The combat and general feel of the game are great

Cons:

While I love the presentation, I must admit some parts are a little rough
Will some of the larger monsters be frustrating to fight in the final version of the game?
