The Tiny Bang Story

In a tiny universe there is a tiny planet, which has been smashed into many tiny (perfectly cut puzzle) pieces by an asteroid. The result is Tiny Bang, a puzzle based game with incredibly beautiful artwork that will test your problem solving skills to the max. At first, the goal of Tiny Bang seems simple and straight forward. In order to put Tiny Planet back together again, you must find all the puzzle pieces and assemble it. Tiny Bang makes it a bit more complicated than simply matching where each piece goes.

Many of the pieces are hidden behind doors, in cabinets, or even in whole new areas. In order to put each scene together you’ll have to unlock all of these areas. This gets more complicated as time goes on, especially as there is a huge variety of different types of puzzles in the unlocking process.

Point-and-Click meets Hidden Object

The game operates in similar ways to The Room, but without the mystery element. In each of the 5 chapters, you’ll be presented with a beautiful piece of artwork that (somewhat bizarrely) shows none of the disaster the intro informs us has befallen the planet. After the initial intro, there is no sign that the planet has ever been destroyed except the puzzle pieces and a few missing parts on some machines.

Each room needs to be carefully examined, and then re-examined as sometimes unlocking something in one area will activate a previously inaccessible place in another scene. When you successfully solve a puzzle, you are rewarded with an animation sequence of the machine being restored.

You don’t have to go it alone

If you aren’t good at solving problems on your own, don’t worry. The game has a nice feature which allows you to play with other players, allowing multiple people to help solve the problems as time goes on. This can definitely take a lot of frustration out of the mix, as solving some of the puzzles may come down to simple trial and error.

May be too relaxed for some audiences

The relaxed scenery and low key puzzles are clearly meant to be a tranquil experience for the player, but this can easily slip into tedium. Some of the puzzles are less thinking games and more pixel picking as you search for the one tiny speck on your screen that you haven’t checked yet.

On smaller screens like the Switch Lite, solving some of these puzzles are nearly impossible because the screen is too small to clearly show it up. If you are playing on a small screen, plugging into a TV may be the best option for solving these problems.

This isn’t the best puzzle game out there, nor is it the worst. It’s meant to be a gentle, relaxing experience for those who want to unwind. Those who don’t enjoy hidden objects or need more story may find themselves bored out of their minds searching endlessly for those hidden pieces.

Pros

  • Fantastic artwork
  • Variety of puzzle types
  • Relatively short game for weekend warriors
  • Peaceful, relaxing experience

Cons

  • May be tedious for some players
  • Bizarre story out of sync with game
  • Lack of plot progression
