In The Long Drive, you start the game in a garage, getting ready for taking your road trip into the dunes. Getting all the resources you’ll need and filling up your car, get prepared to take on the long and dusty road. This is pretty similar to what you’d actually do if you wanted to prepare for a road trip, and remember that staying hydrated is key, so pack up a lot of water too!

What is different from real life is that you’re going nowhere, and we don’t just mean this figuratively. You are actually driving without a destiny, and you’ll traverse an infinite procedurally generated desert. The general dynamic of The Long Road is to be a relaxing adventure you’ll enjoy while driving seemingly endlessly through the desert.

But wait, there's more, just aimlessly driving does sound relaxing for a while, but soon enough it will get a little boring. Luckily there's much more than just aimlessly driving around. There are missions and objectives, even though they are a little loose and the game allows you to face those challenges however you want.

And we have not even mentioned the survival element of the game. After all, this IS some sort of simulation game, so you need to really take care of your car, which isn't very good to start with. Take care of not crashing, getting fuel when you need it, not driving like crazy, and all that basic stuff. But you also need to keep in mind that there's a human being driving the car, you'll need to get some water, and food, and make stops every now and then to go to the bathroom. This is the best game for everyone that loves to just drive around.

An odd but good genre

This game belongs in the odd category of bad car simulator games we’ve seen a bunch of in recent years. Games like My Summer Car and Road to Guangdong are part of this strange list. But to be honest, a lot of people actually play games like Grand Theft Auto V to just drive around for a while relaxing and listening to music. So it’s some kind of strange entertainment way we all find in just sitting back and driving for a while.
