ServiceIT: You can do IT

When I was reading the description of what ServiceIT: You can do IT was all about, I was so sure that this would be a game that was perfect for me. I love the idea of tinkering with computers and fixing stuff, but unfortunately, I am a moron, and whenever I try to fix something, it usually ends up on fire or blasted out into outer space! However, thanks to simulator games like this, I can live out that fantasy, so I was very excited to check this one out. However, I will say right off the bat that the version I am talking about here is a rather early build of the game, so please keep that in mind.

Knowing Where To Start

The idea of ServiceIT: You can do IT is that we have just started our own IT style business where we offer people all kinds of services. This can range from diagnosing a problem with their computer and fixing it to helping someone set up a network for their own business. We are willing to take on any job, no matter how big or small, as long as it will help us grow our business. If you have played any kind of business-style simulator game before where you are trying to build your business, you will pretty much already have a basic idea of what this is about, but this game does have something that is pretty cool, and that is an antagonist that is working against you!

Calling All Hackers

One of the coolest things about ServiceIT: You can do IT, and one of the main things that really got me interested in the game is that there is actually a villain in the game, it is not just all about you trying to grow your business. There is an anonymous hacker group that is so unsubtle with who they are supposed to be, they even use the V for Vendetta style mask! Anyway, they try to hack you, and this is something you have to deal with. To be honest, this idea was not fully baked into the build of the game that I played, but it sure as hell intrigued me, and it makes playing the game a little more on the unpredictable. Just who this hacker is and why they want to do our business harm is not known, and I really hope that they are able to pull this off, as it is one of the more interesting stories I have seen in a simulator game.

Getting To Work

In addition to having a fun premise for the story, there is a lot I did like about ServiceIT: You can do IT. When you start and have to diagnose stuff and then use your little soldering iron and other tools to fix it, I thought that this was very fun stuff. Building computers and selling them to make a nice profit, helping people with their tech needs, and other such IT tasks are all very cool. I thought that it was neat how there were lessons you could learn to enhance your skills and be able to take on more jobs. I feel that the bones for a very cool simulator game are here and that they have some fantastic ideas, but I must be honest and say that after about ten minutes into the game, I did start to feel like I needed a little IT help in order to get the best out of the game.

One Diagnostic Test After Another

As I said in the intro, ServiceIT: You can do IT is a game that is in early access as I write this, and I am aware that this is an earlier build of the game, but honestly, I encountered so many bugs, I think calling this an alpha build is the way to go. After I did my first job, for the second, I needed a specific part, and I just had absolutely no way at all to get this part; it was like it did not exist in my game! The UI is very clunky, and the parts and items you need seem to have no rhyme or reason as to where they will be. So much of the time I spent playing this game was wasted on trying to find things that I felt should have been way easier to find. Items not spawning and me simply not being able to get things became a major issue, so much so that I felt I needed to restart the game from scratch. They have some great ideas here for sure, but before they add in any new features or jobs that we can do, they need to fix what is already here.

Pros:

• I thought the idea of the game was great
• Tinkering with stuff is fun
• There are many types of IT jobs you can do
• I loved the idea of the hacker trying to ruin me!

Cons:

• The build I played was super buggy and unplayable in places
• I am not sure what the roadmap for fixing the game is
