Pan'orama

I adore colorful city-builder games, which make announcements like Pan'orama all the more exciting. Seeing an opportunity again to put creative hats on and create a functional world never ceases to spark joy. That is when there's a title coming with such a detailed presentation as this one, where there's a lot a player can immerse themselves with.

Of course, we must remember that reality can always differ from the hype. There are plenty of city-builder games Pan'orama has to compete with, and whether it can deliver a delightful experience against the plenty of highly-rated titles is yet to be seen. But being me, I'm always going to try them because, after all, creating my living, breathing towns is my thing.

Welcome to the Zen Side

A couple of intriguing aspects about Pan'orama immediately separate the title from other city-builders. The primary one is that the game was designed as a calming, relaxing, escapist medium to build a pleasant world away from chaotic rumblings. But what's also interesting is that there are a series of mechanics to make the game challenging should they want it.

The game's core premise is to score as many points as possible, using interconnecting tiles to build geographically appropriate worlds. While the gameplay is challenging, never for a moment do you feel pressured, and you're encouraged to sit back and admire your creations. After all, tile sets' rich color palette and diversity allow players to shape a landscape they'll love.

Little questions and puzzles add another dynamic to the game, allowing players to score more points and give their creations more value. It's a fantastic approach to provide Pan'orama with more objectives for players that prefer a more guided approach rather than the liberal creation suite to do whatever.

The interface for Pan'orama is intuitive, the visuals are stunning, and the mechanics are delightfully simple. Not many players could complain about this zen-like city builder, except that it may lack the intensity and meticulousness that some simulation management players crave. It won't please players that enjoy a faster pace of life, but those escapist gamers will find much to love.

Free Your Mind

The delicate balance of player freedom and guided objectives is arguably the most standout aspect of Pan'orama. Similar games like Townscaper offer players a straightforward toolset to build little towns; Pan'orama brings missions, points, and puzzles into the mix to give the game a higher sense of purpose. Both are fine city builders that could transcend anyone onto an alternative universe.

However, Pan'orama feels more like a complete game regarding city building. Yes, it's straightforward, but that's the whole beauty of it. Anybody could jump right in to craft a beautiful landscape and become more immersed in their creation by stringing together tiles worthy of reward. Overall, it's a city-builder that's worth a try.
