Manitas Kitchen is one of those games that I came across by complete accident. I have always had a soft spot for cooking games, I love pizza, I think dinosaurs are freaking cool and I like crime stories! This is a game that combines all four of those things so how could I not be interested in this? Now, as of writing, the game is not yet released, but I have played the hell out of the demo and I am not exaggerating when I say that this game legit made me want to chow down on some pizza!

Big Dreams Little Arms

The premise of Manitas Kitchen is that we play as a T-Rex called Trexito and Trexito has a dream. That dream is to make the tastiest pizzas around, but there is a problem, Trexito has little arms so it is makes making pizzas pretty challenging! It is the kind of thing that on the surface just looks so charming, but we have this suspicious boss called Aplpadino and we are sure that he is hiding something and we end up thrust into this kind of crime drama too! It sounds weird, but it truly is fantastic stuff.

Bringing The Dino Squad Together

While we would have to say that Trexito is the main character in Manitas Kitchen. Due to those small arms, Trexito needs some help, but that is where the rest of this awesome pizza making team comes into play. There is Freckles who is the one that will make sure the dough is perfect. There is Marsh who handles the oven duties and then we have the sauce guy, Collini! I think that there is a super fun cast of characters in this game and I am looking forward to seeing how they get fleshed out and introduced in the full game.

The Heat In The Kitchen

If you have played the Overcooked series before, you have a rough idea of what to expect from. Manitas Kitchen. We control Trexito and have to take on various orders of pizza that we then need to make. You move around the kitchen and make the pizza with these button pressing mini-games. You can call in the dino squad to help you when you need to. You unlock new recipes as you progress through the game. You also have to make sure that Trexito’s mental state is ok which I think is an interesting dynamic. If they get too stressed out, they can kiss making those tasty pizzas goodbye!

That Dino Charm

The presentation of Manitas Kitchen is just awesome. It has a real kids animated TV show about it and it has a ton of charm. It is impossible not to love Trexito and the rest of the dinosaurs when you call them into action. The little kitchen you are whipping up these pizzas in is adorable and I got such a huge kick out of the pizza oven looking like a giant dinosaur egg. Plus we cannot ignore the fact that Trexito looks so damn stylish with their little chef's hat!

I have not seen many more charming games than this one in quite a while. Manitas Kitchen is the kind of game that I think is going to be a pretty big hit as it has so much style and personality. It is a fun cooking game too with an interesting story and a fantastic main character. To be honest with you my only worry about this is the title. I think that they should have called the game something else, perhaps Trexito’s Kitchen would have been a catchier name than what they went for.
