Lust Effect

One of the most appealing aspects of Lust Effect is that the game is actually completed. That means no waiting around for another chapter or anything like that, what you see here is what you get. This is a lewd first person shooter, and there are not as many of those as you would think, so whenever one comes across my radar, I am always excited to give it a try. Look, if you are expecting a smooth, highly polished FPS, but with lots of boobs and sex, you are in for disappointment, well, apart from the boobs and sex. This is a rather janky game, but in that jank is some fun.

The Hive Mind Rules All!

The first disappointment that I had with Lust Effect was the story. The basics here are that on a space station, there is an alien race that is kind of ruled like a hive mind, where you have a hot alien babe and a bunch of crazy, blood lusted Xenomorph like creatures. Basically, they want you to be part of this hive mind, and as you progress through the game, you get these “memories” which are supposed to flesh out the story, but in all honesty, they just made things more confusing. To be fair, there is a decent amount of story here, but it is very standard sci-fi stuff. Do not expect something along the lines of Alien: Isolation when you are playing this!

Taking The Fight To Them!

For the most part as far as the first person shooter gameplay of Lust Effect goes, it is a much more action packed kind of game. You are basically looking for these power cell things that will power up the ship and let you escape. On the route to do this, you need to explore tight maps that all feel the same and kill the same enemies over and over again. There is no real progression or any real challenge to the game if I am being honest. The shooting feels decent enough, but there is just nothing that wows you or really makes this stand out from of the very crowded FPS genre. Actually, that is not true, there is something that makes this stand out, but it is not something all that great.

More Colonial Than Isolation

Ok, so I have already name-dropped the epic Alien: Isolation, but honestly, Lust Effect has more in common with the not-so-great Alien: Colonial Marines game, and by that, I mean the level of jank that the game has. To start with, during the tutorial missions, you need to sprint and then jump. However, the game teaches you to sprint after this! Granted, you can figure it out, but how did this happen? Enemies, for the most part, are easy to kill, except when they phase in and out of walls! The whole game has this very janky feel to it, but rather than get frustrated and mad as I was playing the game, I just had fun with it and got a kick out of the way it is so poorly made. Also, you can plow through this game in next to no time at all, so it is not exactly asking for a great deal from the player.

A Little Robotic Helping Hand

I have my suspicions that AI offered a real helping hand with the making of Lust Effect. To start with, the game certainly has that AI art look to it. To be fair, the chick we play as and the main alien babe are great! Any of the sex scenes that you unlock with these two are awesome and easily my favorite part of the game, especially that hot 69 scene. The alien-infested space station looks ok, right around what you would expect. However, enemies clip in and out of scenes, and there is just a general lack of polish everywhere. Also, the AI thing raises its head once again for the voice acting, which I am sorry to say is laughably bad.

Pros:

• The sci-fi setting is cool
• The main character is hot
• Any of the XXX scenes with the alien babe were fun
• To be fair, the shooting in the game feels good

Cons:

• The whole game is janky, from top to bottom
• I found it funny, but this may just be straight “bad” for many people
