Well, that’s a strangely specific dream you have, but luckily for you, this is the game that will make that a reality. LAPIN is a 2D platformer game that follows a group of rabbits escape the dangers of the local park that they inhabit and bounce their way to a new home. If you are looking for a well-designed platforming game, then you are in the right place. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

So, the gameplay of LAPIN is eerily similar to that of Celeste, as it is a fantastic story driven platformer that has you running and jumping around using some interesting abilities to improve your mobility. This game requires you be extremely precise with your movements, so, thankfully, the control scheme is incredibly tight and responsive. Making this one of the few games where if you fail, its your fault, not the games’ fault.

There is a large selection of collectibles to be found, which may require you to check some areas that are a bit out of your way while you journey. These can vary from information on other rabbits, photocards, seeds, and a few other different items.

On top of this, there are many different things to interact with. You can find and speak to other bunnies and develop your relationship with them though these interactions. You can read the records left behind by a former rabbit expedition leader, and find some interesting things to play with in their home.

Visuals

The visuals of this game are utterly stunning. It shares a strange haunting beauty with Hollow Knight, a stunning but dark world. It does also have a bit more color to it, as though they also took a page out of Shovel Knight’s book. All the characters within this title have unique looks, and you aren’t just looking at a bunch of identical rabbits trying to figure out which is which and who is talking. Some have hairstyles, different colors, markings and scars, even clothing, to denote which is which. The characters all look satisfyingly unique, which keeps you from getting confused and easily allows you to pick a favorite.

The art style and animation of the game is stunning crafted and resembles older animated movies. There is something delightfully disarming about it all. I found the game a delight to look at and a delight to play.

Music

The music of LAPIN has a magical classical sound that I found entrancing. Soft and gentle with an exciting undertone, the music to this game proves a perfect accompaniment to this adventure. If you are looking for a game that has a wonderfully sweet soundtrack to match its lovely but engaging gameplay, then you have come to the right place.
