It was a few years ago that indie title, Fling to the Finish first made an appearance and it picked up some awards and a ton of hype. Well, as I write this the game is very, very close to being done and it is one of the craziest looking games to be released in 2021. Just what the heck is this? Well, it is a hybrid of a co-op racing game with platforming elements mixed in.

Two Become One

Fling to the Finish is not a cop-op racing game in the same way that something like Sonic Team Racing was. This takes co-op to a whole new level. The idea here is that you and your partner are tethered together by an elastic rope and you have to work together to progress and stand the best chance of winning.

Team Work Is The Best Work

When you first play the game , you guys will be all over the place, getting stuck on things and just having a really hard time, but then it all clicks! Once you start working together and communicating properly, you see just how much fun Fling to the Finish is. You can use that rope to fling yourselves forward, climb high areas and make tight turns! It is very fun stuff and while it is fun, it also requires some skill to get really good at it. On the flips side of this, I will say that the game is not frustrating to learn to play.

A Ph.D. In Personality

I love the whole style and presentation that this game has going on. Each level has its own theme such as a park, outer space, and a theme park, and levels are packed with ways in which you can give yourself an edge so you stand the best chance of winning. It is not just the levels that have a ton of personality. Fling to the Finish has a fantastic cast of adorable characters, my personal favorite is the little penguin, but I have a feeling that once this game takes off, some of these characters will be as popular as those from stuff like Fortnite Battle Royale and Among Us.

Plenty Of Ways To Play

Before I get to the different ways you can play this, I have to mention the control scheme. You can play this with a controller each… or you can play using the same controller! This sounds crazy and I am sure it will not be easy, but I bet it is going to be a lot of fun. You can play this by yourself with a partner online.

You can also play with two of you on the same screen against the AI and online. You can also play local split screen which is great if you are having a game night at hour house. It is pretty stacked with game modes and they all look like an absolute blast.

It is crazy to think that it was all the way back in 2008 that I first saw Fling to the Finish! I will admit that the game did drop off my radar for a while, but now we are close to it actually being released I could not be any more excited. If you want a fun multiplayer game that has racing and platform elements smashed together with a bunch of cute and hilarious characters, there is no better game in 2021 for you than this!
