Get ready for the latest installment of the Dying franchise; Dying: 1983. A first-person puzzle game, you take control of the protagonist and are given the ability to explore stunning 3D environments, and use a variety of props that you collect to solve the puzzles laying in your way. Traverse this bizarre world and uncover the truth hidden behind the scenes. If you think you have what it takes to explore this uniquely spooky game, then keep on reading as we get into what makes it tick. Let’s go.

Gameplay

A first-person action-adventure game, this game mostly operates with you slowly moving through the environments as you attempt to collect items and props which will help you solve puzzles and continue through the world. There is a serious Metrovania-style style exploration in some of the game, which being nice and peaceful in others. Though don’t let that fool you, this game is out to spook you.

This is, for all intents and purposes, a puzzle game and it really sticks to that concept all the way through. I can’t tell you too much about what appears in it without spoiling something, but be prepares to use your noggin at least a little bit.

Visuals

Without a doubt, the standout part of the game. Sure, the writing is great and the concepts it explores are interesting, but this takes the concept of ‘visual media’ and absolutely runs with it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game so stunning. Everything is brilliantly designed with lighting, shading and colors that really make everything stand out. I was downright surprised through nearly every level thanks to the way it all looks.

Whether you’re looking at juicy body parts laying around, admiring how the reflections catch on a puddle, or, if you’re more like me, staring at a wall while stunned at the detail in the brickwork, you’ll really come to understand how fantastic the games visuals are. Any screenshot of this game looks like it could have been a professional render of environmental scenes.

Atmosphere

This is one of those games that really gets atmosphere. Like GTFO or Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, you’ll find it’s earned its place among those titles. It’s one of those games where you can spend half an hour walking around, just waiting for someone to jump out from around a corner, or a room to inexplicably explode, or something else to happen. Many games really struggle to provide that level of ambience but this one pulls it off like its nothing. It really latches onto that specific Japanese style of horror/thriller that you see in things like Resident Evil: Village or Silent Hill.

8

A fantastic game that offers a lot to the puzzle-solving thriller genre. This title is visually incredible and offers a unique narrative that you can’t find anywhere else. Get this game.
