Balsa Model Flight Simulator

What we have here with Balsa Model Flight Simulator is a very well-made flight simulator that is deep, but I also think it could be the perfect game to ease someone into the world of flight simulators. As the name suggests, this is about model aircraft and that is something which I found pretty interesting. Please note that as I write this the game is not finished, but on Steam it is in early access.

The Best Around!

I was pretty impressed to hear that Balsa Model Flight Simulator does actually offer a campaign. The idea of the story (well not so much a story, but you know what I mean) is that you are an amateur RC aircraft enthusiast that wants to be ranked as the best around.

To do this, you will be taking part in many different missions ranging from setting high scores to racing other RC aircraft racers.

Taking Control!

One thing that I do feel maybe make or break is the controls. This game is a very deep experience and as a result, the controls are trying to be as realistic as possible. This means that each little turn will make a difference to the way your RC aircraft is handling. I do feel that it will have a learning curve, but this realistic flying will be what really sets this game apart from the rest. Flight sims are always very deep, but I think the fact this one is based around RC aircraft may make people a bit more willing to stick with it and learn how to play it.

Fighting And Flying

As well as the single-player campaign that Balsa Model Flight Simulator has for you, you also have many other game modes to enjoy. The one that certainly grabbed my attention was the paintball combat mode where you get to fly and blast other RC aircraft with paintballs! This is awesome and a very nice addition. You also have races, precision flying, and more. You have many different game modes (including some that offer up to 16 players multiplayer) to keep you entertained here.

Making Your Dream RC Racer

Look, clearly you can see that Balsa Model Flight Simulator is a great-looking game, but speaking of great looking you can design your dream RC aircraft with this game. You can do the basics like paint and add decals and so on to your aircraft, but this game also gives you the ability to actually design the aircraft from the ground up. Making sure it can actually fly and be aerodynamic is going to be a real test of your engineering skills.

I am probably what you would call a casual flight-sim fan and this is because my dad is big into these types of games. I think that Balsa Model Flight Simulator has much of what makes a flight sim popular, but there is just something much more interesting about the idea of flying an RC plane.

Pros:

• The game has a great selection of game modes
• You can have paintball fights which is awesome
• This game is just as deep as other flight sims
• You can build your very own RC aircraft from the ground up

Cons:

• The steep learning curve may be a bit of a barrier of entry
• No word on when this game will be done with early access
