A Tale of Paper: Refolded is a third-person exploration puzzle game. The main character has no dialogue, so he simply reacts in different ways to different situations. The gameplay draws on themes of communication, memories, and a sense of community. Everything to create a silent journey full of meaning surrounding our magical protagonist.

Silent & Puzzling

The player controls the main character, a piece of paper named Line, through a series of puzzles and environments that are known as "foldings." These foldings are usually presented in an abstract manner, with each one having different physical shapes and aesthetic styles. The game is designed to be played in one sitting; the story has no combat or dialogue sequences, and there is no inventory system, sidequests, or multiplayer mode. There are also no loot drops, crafting elements, or upgrade systems (although it does have collectibles).

The gameplay involves searching out and collecting pages throughout the world that tend to blend into the environments. You can collect pages by finding them or by interacting with objects. You can also find "hidden" pages by interacting with objects. The game also hold three bonus chapters, where you can play three prequel chapters, with a new character.

A Charming Origami

You'll notice that the graphics are simple, stylized, and low-resolution. The graphics are not a high resolution or realistic; they're not detailed or photo-realistic; they are kind of cartoonish. Which makes them perfect as a family-friendly game. The game is sincerely, very easy to play, and feels much like a platformer. The music, level design, character design, and soundtrack are all very charming and quirky; they perfectly encapsulate the narrative and journey of our character line. There are some fun puzzles to figure out, although most of them are fairly straightforward and simple. There is no real challenge for the hardcore or veteran games, and the title can be completed between two or three hours. It is a game made for a laid-back experience as players are unlikely to get stuck or become frustrated.

The story is told through the environment, not dialogue. It's a simple story about a piece of paper that wants to transcend its own limitation to fulfill the dreams of its creator. There are limited answers to the countless question you might have, but the game doesn’t fail in telling a compelling story in the end.

A Tale of Paper is a fun and enjoyable game with great, simple gameplay that's sure to appeal to anyone who loves papercraft. With its short length, it's great as a relaxing distraction while you're waiting for the train or something similar. However, if you're looking for a deep experience that will challenge both your mind and reflexes, A Tale of Paper may not be right for you.

Overall, A Tale of Paper is a charming and enjoyable game. The story is simple, but it has enough mystery to keep players engaged for the duration of the playthrough. The puzzles are challenging enough to make you feel like you’re accomplishing something without being so difficult that they prevent enjoyment or progress. If you like exploring beautiful environments while solving puzzles, then it could be right up your alley! If you are a fan of It Takes Two, A Hat In Time, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, or Sable this game is for you!
