World of Tanks Blitz

I must admit that I went into World of Tanks Blitz with a kind of salty attitude. The reason I say that is that this is a slimmed down and free to play version of the very popular world of tanks that many of us know and love. This is available for mobile devices, but the versions I have dabbled with have been the PC and also the Nintendo Switch, I actually found myself having more fun with the Nintendo Switch version of the game if I am being honest, this turned out to be a game that just worked out great to play on a handheld.

Smaller Scale, But Big Fun

In World of Tanks Blitz, you play smaller 7 vs 7 battles. You also play on smaller maps as well. While the scale is smaller, the fun is not. The idea here is that the battles are quicker paced and more fun and I think that it works very well. Do not get me wrong, there is still a lot of strategy involved here, just like the regular game. You will still be inching around corners, trying to find an open shot all the while making sure that your vulnerable areas are not left exposed.

The Path To Victory

There is a great sense of progression in World of Tanks Blitz and one thing that I love is that if you are willing to grind, you can actually unlock pretty much everything in the game! That is awesome and while it does always have its handout telling you about the stuff you can buy with real money. There is no need to spend any money at all on this game, I unlocked many upgrades and new tanks, crew, and more just by playing the game. Now, if you were to spend money, things would move along faster, but that is entirely up to the player.

Small Scale, Big Details

The presentation of World of Tanks Blitz is great, even in handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch, this is still a good-looking game. I thought the visuals would take a hit so I was surprised at how polished the game looked. I am about as far from a tank historian as you can get, but the tanks are very well detailed and it is awesome how there are hundreds and hundreds of tanks, which you can customize to your heart's content. The over 20 battle arenas all have their own style and personality too.

Talking With The Troops

The one area that I would like to see worked on with World of Tanks Blitz is communicating with the people in your squad. In the regular game of World of Tanks, this is very easy to do.

You just press the bumper and you can call out commands. There is no system like that at play here in this game. You just kind of do your own thing and while there are times you can get on the same page. I found communicating with my teammates to be harder than I felt it needed to be.

Pros:

• This is one of the best free to play games I have played
• It is the perfect game to play in handheld mode on the Switch
• There are hundreds of tanks, upgrades, and more to unlock
• You can see pretty much the whole game without spending any money

Cons:

• It is harder to communicate with your squad than it needs to be
• At the end of the day, this is a free to play game and they do try to tempt you to spend money a lot
