Toy Soldiers: HD

Many people who were all in on the Xbox Live Arcade back in the day will be excited about Toy Soldiers: HD. This is an HD coat of paint on the original game that was very popular. As well as the improved visuals they have also added some other cool stuff too. This is a World War I themed strategy game that has a heavy emphasis on action, way more than you usually get in a strategy game and that was why it was a real favorite of mine and my buddies back when this was first released.

Just Like Toy Soldiers

Toy Soldiers: HD is set during World War I which back then was quite unusual as World War II gets the attention. Anyway, there is a single-player campaign for you to sink your teeth into and I would advise spending time there before you do anything else. The single-player campaign is a tower defense style campaign where you will have to defend your base from German or British soldiers.

There are campaigns for both sides and after each mission, you earn money and you can use this money to buy stuff before the next mission.

Taking Control

As Toy Soldiers: HD is a strategy game much of what you will be doing is organizing your units and selecting what you need for any given battle. This is normal and what you would expect from a strategy game. Where this game is different and what I love about it is that you can take direct control of things! Take control of a turret, a tank, or whatever you want so that you can have a direct input on the action.

I love this kind of thing as while planning your strategy and seeing it all unfold is awesome. Being able to jump in and take direct control to try and make things turn in your favor is exciting and can give you an edge.

Ready For War!

As well as the campaign Toy Soldiers: HD also has multiplayer for you as well, playing against a friend is where this game really shines and it is an absolute blast, especially if you guys are trash talking each other. There is also a survival mode too where you can just fight wave after wave of enemies until you cannot take any more. This new version of the game gives you all of the DLC from the original release as well as a few new levels as well.

A Fresh Coat Of HD Paint

The HD remaster of this game is very well done. The game looks so much better and smoother and the animation is pretty great too. One thing that I love is the shell cam where you can follow a shot all the way to a target, it is a really cool effect.

The game being based on toy soldiers has a very interesting design to it and I think they did a great job in modernizing the visuals of the game.

Pros:

• The HD remaster is very well done
• I like how it has all of the DLC
• It also has some new levels as well
• Being able to take control of units is really cool

Cons:

• The campaign is not exactly super deep in the story department
• You really have to get a buddy to play with for this to have longevity
