Void Crew thrusts players into a grim future where humanity battles a mysterious alien threat known as the Hollow. As a crew of up to 4 daring mavericks, you take control of an advanced starship to complete perilous missions in deep space. While the setup may sound familiar to sci-fi fans, Void Crew distinguishes itself with frantic co-op gameplay and memorable customization options.

In Void Crew, you pick from several unique classes like pilot, engineer, and gunner. Each role complements the others, so communication and teamwork are essential. My favorite part was scrambling to put out fires (sometimes literally) with my crewmates as crises struck our ship.

While comparisons could be made to games like No Man’s Sky for space exploration or Elite Dangerous for ship combat, Void Crew's focus on co-op teamwork makes it feel distinct.

A Symphony of Disaster

Void Crew successfully captures the controlled chaos of operating a starship on the brink of disaster. With black holes, asteroid storms, and enemy attacks constantly threatening your hull's integrity, there's no time to catch your breath.

Prioritizing repairs, balancing ship systems, and coordinating with your crewmates becomes an art form. While it can feel overwhelming early on, the satisfaction of barely surviving by the skin of your teeth makes success extremely rewarding.

It all feels like an intergalactic game of Overcooked, where every player must do the task that is assigned to them – lest they face the ire of three other angry players. Much like Mario Party, this is the kind of game that was made to test just how enduring friendships are.

Customize For Chaos

A major highlight in Void Crew is the ability to deeply customize your character and ship. With a vast wardrobe of stylish space suits and visors, I could create a look that perfectly suited my playstyle. The extensive ship upgrade system also allows for radically different loadouts.

Whether I wanted a heavily armored tank or a speedy glass cannon, the ship customization let me build it. Combining my personalized style with my carefully-tuned loadout made me feel truly unique. Also worth noting is the game's impeccable sense of style and design, which is a definite ten out of ten.

Procedurally-Generated Mayhem

The procedurally generated missions provide impressive variety, taking place everywhere from asteroid fields to derelict space stations. While objectives like resource gathering could become repetitive, the unpredictability of random events spices things up. An ordinary mining expedition might suddenly turn frantic as your radar lights up with incoming bogeys.

The random loot drops also make exploration rewarding. That dusty old shipwreck might contain a rare weapon blueprint that perfectly complements your playstyle. While not every mission is a winner, the randomness ensures there’s always a surprise in store.

While the mission objectives themselves aren’t groundbreaking, the unpredictable situations that arise in the midst of space travel make every outing memorable. If you’re looking for a co-op experience that’s out of this world, Void Crew is your ticket to ride.
