The Mortuary Assistant

I sure hope you like demons and scary things because if you do, you’re going to love the Mortuary Assistant. Take control of the new apprentice at River Fields Mortuary, and aid in the embalming process for the newly deceased. Does it stop at a simple job of taking care of the dead? No, it does not. Not even close. You will have to complete your job and contend against many terrible creatures of the night without getting yourself munched on or befalling some other terrible fate. If you like games that really push the envelope, you are in the right place. Let’s get into it.

Gameplay

So, the gameplay to The Mortuary Assistant acts a bit like a first-person exploration game. You will go through the ins and outs of the embalming process, but the game kind of handles like Car Mechanic Simulator or Powerwash Simulator. Its all very matter of fact in its clean and crisp gameplay presentation. Most of it is a simple clicking to move through the processes and then walking around to avoid all the other demonic nonsense that is going on around the mortuary. I can’t knock the gameplay, its very simple but easy to get the hang of and keeps everything nice and streamlined.

You will have to grow your knowledge of the occult to keep the demons at bay. There will be clues for you to investigate, but each play through is unique so don’t get complacent. There is over 10 hours of gameplay here but multiple playthroughs are required to fully grasp the puzzle.

Visuals

The visuals of The Mortuary Assistant are actually pretty good. They look like someone made Phasmophobia with an actual budget. The lighting is brilliant, and all the surfaces look like they are actually made out of the material they claim to be. It’s a high-resolution game and everything looks great.

I found the visuals to be the standout aspect of the game. The way the monsters are designed in tandem with the way the world looks and feels adds an incredible ambience that is tough to beat. There is something undeniably spooky and unsettling from start to finish that keeps you simultaneously hooked, and unable to keep looking.

Ambiance

The ambiance of this game is utterly fantastic. It really captures your imagination and makes the who thing as creepy as possible without them hiring a guy to come to your house and scare you. The way the game carries tension, controls the mood and strings your fear along is masterful. It gives you goosebumps with the same vibes that Visage was able to provide, and that’s not an easy task but it manages it near effortlessly.
