Do you think that too much realism can sometimes be counterproductive in video games? The Drone Racing League Simulator doesn't seem to think so! The game translates the intricate art of drone flying into a virtual arena to give enthusiasts a more liberal and consistent environment to harness their passions/
The Drone League Racing Simulator takes all the challenges and skills of flying a drone to the very last detail. It's already hard in real life, so why make that into a video game? Apparently, there are some fundamental world limitations, such as the drone's battery life. Not forgetting the risk of damage. You may love drones, but you can't always fly when and where you want. That's where this game enters the fray.
Learn a Thing or Two
The title is a little more deceiving than what the game actually is - which is, in fact, not a game at all. The Drone Racing League Simulator is a simulator where very little racing occurs. It's more of a realistic engine where you can learn to fly a quad drone without running the risk of damage of batteries running out. You can tell almost instantly that it would put off a vast number of hopeful gamers.
There's no high-octane racing action or competitive mechanics. It's simply catered for those who enjoy drone flying. So by that notion, we have to look at The Drone Racing League Simulator for what it is - a real-life sim. By that standard, is the title any good? On the surface, we can say it's really well done in replicating the intricacies of drone flying.
The problem is, though, if you're not a patient person or dedicated to learning the art of drone flying, your attention will wain pretty quickly. The physics engine is so natural that keeping balance and a delicate flying equilibrium is challenging. Arguably so to the point of being incredibly frustrating.
Still, suppose we can take anything from The Drone Racing League Simulator for a general perspective. In that case, the visuals surrounding the environments and drone models are well done. Even if you do get flustered trying to fly your drones, at least you can admire the well-crafted world that resembles real-world locations.
Mindless Drone
So is it worth investing in The Drone Racing League Simulator? Suppose you're a person who gets a thrill in managing detail like in Microsoft Flight Simulator. In that case, you actually might enjoy this sim. Otherwise, it's almost a hard no. The lack of focused gameplay and objectives wouldn't have you playing long - you won't find any reasons to invest your time.
However, we will say that in terms of drone flying, The Drone Racing League Simulator is well done in translating real-world mechanics into the virtual world. That alone makes this 'game' impressive but still won't do much justice in attracting players looking for the thrill of aerial drone combat or such.
