A game built around building a ship and surviving doesn’t look good on paper but Starship Theory detail in getting resources and survive makes the game very enjoyable. Starship Theory’s developer Reconnected Software knew how to make a realistic management survival game. The game is in early access meaning that their regular updates happening within the game to improve it and its cheaper.

Oh Captain, My Captain.

The story throughout Starship Theory is basically to just survive. That’s it, there isn’t any story to the game. It’s a game, solely played for its gameplay and depth. It’s still in early access so it could change and have a story in the future. It feels like you are managing your own Star Trek ship with less focus on the story and more focus on gameplay.

You’re fired.

Starship Theory has a very simple art style with the ship floating through space on a 2D background. It has simple graphics and the design doesn’t take anything away from Starship Theory experience though as the gameplay and concept behind it keep you playing for a long time. You’re going to be more concentrated on your crew and stopping your ship blowing up than on the background. So, the graphics don’t really matter within the game as its the gameplay you stay for.

Survive at any cost.

It’s the gameplay you come to play Starship Theory. As the ship management mechanics are fantastically balanced yet unbalanced. It adds unpredictability to the gameplay. That’s how you want a game set in space to be like. As space would be very unpredictable, so it does add a touch of realism to it. It would be chaos if anyone was thrown into a ship management role.

From zero to the enterprise!

Starship Theory is a management game at its core, you manage your crew, ship, and resources. Which through the game, it gets harder as you expand your ship. You start off with a rust bucket and could end up with an enterprise that gives you replay-ability as you want to get a bigger ship on the next playthrough.

Become a part of the team.

The game doesn’t have out of this world graphics or plot, but the gameplay and mechanics are great. As in-depth as they should be and well balanced. The current aspect the game is improving on is the crew traits which means giving each member of the crew a unique personality of sorts as well as factions, reputation, and species. They are improving on an already stellar performing game.

Along with additional resources to manage, this gives even more things to do within the Starship Theory and more customisable functions. There’s a lot there but it looks like there might even be more to come. As this is being written, the game is still in early access, so there’s no telling where the already great game is going to end up.
