Reshaping Mars

Mars and video games go together hand in hand and the latest one to feature the red planet is Reshaping Mars. As I write this the game is not yet finished and it is in early access, but there is still more than enough features in the early access version to make it worthwhile. This game is being made by just one guy so I think it is very impressive how this is shaping up.

Taking Over The Red Planet

The ultimate goal of Reshaping Mars is survival on the red planet. Mankind has headed to the stars and Mars appears like it could be a fantastic place to call home, but only if things are done right. As you have probably guessed, this is a colony management sim and it is all about trying to make your new place productive, safe, and at the same time keeping all of your people happy.

Building Your Place From Scratch

In the game, you pretty much just start from nothing and have to build your way up. Some basic buildings and the bare necessities are what you will be focused on at the start of the game as you try to just get on by. Thankfully, Mars is quite rich with resources and before long your journey in Reshaping Mars. Progression looks like it is going to be quite deep as you can research new technologies and make use of them to help your new colony thrive.

People Are People

You can have all the best stuff around, but if your people are not happy and productive then your colony is not going to do that well. People management is a big part of what you have to do here in Reshaping Mars. People have needs, they need to be fed and feel safe, but they also need things to keep them happy like leisure facilities. If you want your colony to thrive, keeping your people happy is the first step in that journey.

Mars Is A Harsh Mistress

What really appeals to me about the game is the list of random events that can happen. You can have things going nice and easy, people being productive, things are safe, and so on. However, Mars is a very harsh planet and there are many things that can cause you problems.

From extreme weather events to new factions that want to rule Mars for themselves. This will 100 percent keep you on your toes and make all of your military defenses you put in place well worth the hassle of making them.

Pros:

• I love the idea of building a colony on Mars
• The random events that can happen will keep you on your toes
• Your people seem like they have very unique personalities
• There are combat and dangerous things that can happen too!

Cons:

• When will the full game actually release?
• You could end up getting screwed by one of the random events!
