The spaceship in which the game takes place is called Purity-02. Once a thriving research vessel, it’s now a death-trap with mutated creatures roaming the corridors. Darkness engulfs the environment, so you’ll have to use your flashlight to explore areas and discover the secrets hiding within the walls of the ship.

The dark atmosphere means that occasionally you will be able to hear monsters, but not necessarily know where they are, which contributes to the fun and tense gameplay.

Both the spaceship environment and the creatures you encounter are fantastically detailed in a way that’s impressive for an indie game developed by a small studio. Stealth and survival

Phantaruk’s main gameplay revolves around being stealthy and avoiding the various monsters roaming about. If you’re discovered, you’ll be chased down and killed within seconds if you’re not careful. It’s very similar in style to other popular survival horror games such as SOMA and Alien: Isolation. Hiding in dark places and behind cover is the best way to avoid detection, and you’ll likely find yourself doing this often. You’ll be encountering lots of monsters in this game so you have to be strategic in how you play so you can progress through the story.

Managing your toxin level

As well as the dangers around you, you also have to worry about a deadly parasite inside your body that releases deadly toxins. Your toxin level gradually increases over time and can be managed through the use of antidotes that you’ll find around the ship.

The toxin level increases at a rate that isn’t overwhelming though, adding a little extra to the tense gameplay without being a complete nuisance.
