They said it couldn't be done. They said it shouldn't be done. In reality, no one said anything of the sort, because absolutely nobody cared about the original Neighbours from Hell. The only remarkable thing about the game is the fact that it has spawned a sequel, so somebody somewhere must have bought it.

For the overwhelming majority of you that didn't, the premise was based around a fictional reality TV show. You controlled the character of Woody, essentially an ersatz Jeremy Beadle, able to boost his ratings by playing increasingly cruel practical jokes on his fat oaf of a neighbour. The only difference with this sequel is the fact that it's set on holiday, with Woody stalking the neighbour around such locales as the beach, a cruise ship and India, all scrolling two-screen replicas of each other but with different props. The point 'n' click interface lets you carry out such hi-jinks as putting a crab in the neighbour's cool-box or smearing chilli sauce on his arse-wipe, with predictably hilarious results. Later levels do get slightly more complicated with the introduction of multiple characters and more complex tricks, but to be honest it's little more than a simple puzzle game and you've seen pretty much all there is to offer within an hour or so.

The presentation is pleasing enough in a Wallace & Gromit style, but ultimately it's end-of-the-pier stuff that will struggle to entertain all but the most wide-eyed non-gamer. This is one reality TV show you'll be glad to walk out on.

Game Reviews

If you’ve ever lived next door to someone you just couldn’t stand, playing Neighbours from Hell 2 will be a refreshing game that leaves you satisfied. You play Woody, a character who is definitely tired of his horrible neighbor, and wants to get sweet revenge on him. This time, the neighbor has decided to go on vacation—and Woody is coming along too in order to make sure they have an awful time.

Solve Puzzles and Play Tricks

If you played the first Neighbours from Hell, you’ll know what to expect. Your neighbor has a specific goal set for this time period, and your job is to make sure that rather than getting what he wants, he gets the opposite. In this case, the neighbor wants to woo someone on the cruise ship, ride on some jet skis, and relax on the beach. You’ll be sneaking after him in each stage, using your brains to make his trip as unpleasant as possible.

Lots of Replay Value

One of the most fun aspects of the game is that you can complete the episode while still having more to do. Solving the puzzles is enough to complete the episode, but if you do them in a specific sequence he’ll go from annoyed, to mad, to completely infuriated. Figuring out exactly which order will make him as furious as possible adds a significant amount of replay value to the game.

If you fill the neighbor’s anger bar all the way, you get an award for the episode. The anger bar is an improvement from the past game, which only gave you a percentage to let you know how much anger you had at the end of the game—rather than a clear bar that indicates where you are at for each episode.

Multiple lives added

A big improvement on this game from the original is that you get extra lives during your game. That means if you make a mistake, you don’t have to start completely over. In the first Neighbours from Hell, you only had one life—and also had to sneak around the neighbour’s guardian pets.

Cute graphics and sound

This is an older game, but the graphics still manage to have a cute, timeless appearance. The sound in the game adds a whole new dimension of hilarity. Despite being over 2 decades old, the game is still fun and light-hearted to play.

8

Despite its age, this game is still a real classic bound to bring a few laughs to the player. Although there has been a handful of other games after this one, all of them were by different publishers and didn’t really add anything to the game. This is the last game from the series that truly added something to the Neighbours from Hell series. If you like slapstick comedy and older games, this is a hilarious option to try.

Pros:

  • Hilarious dose of Nostalgia
  • Great improvements from the first game
  • Lots of replay value

Cons:

  • May look somewhat dated
