As you may have been able to tell by the name (Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin) , this game is the second part of the family following a successful initial game. You can expect to see the game on only the Nintendo Switch and computers that run Microsoft Windows. It has not yet been released, but the official date for release was announced to be July 9, 2021 so it is coming up fast. Now the story does rely heavily on the first video game in the series, so it may be beneficial for you to play that game first.

Either way the story for this game involves the disappearance of a race of species from the planet. It is up to one person to save this species and this character is none other than the descendant of Red, a legendary Rider from the first game. You are tasked with following in the footsteps of your heritage in order to save the day once again, and it all starts by meeting a girl. This girl somehow has the only Rathalos (the extinct species) egg left on the planet. It is your job to protect this egg and help bring the Rathalos back to life while protecting it from enemies who want to see the species destroyed.

Gameplay

Besides this game being similar to the first in the series, we also found it quite similar to the Jurassic Park movies and video games that were made about the movies. If you recall, the Jurassic Park movies are all about the revival of dinosaurs, not counting the part where the dinosaurs go on a rampage and nearly kill everyone. However the restoration of the species in this game is more out of necessity rather than for show. Either way, we have found this game to be a lot like the Jurassic Park movies and any video games that you will find made about the series.

Final Verdict

For this game our final rating is a 7/10 due to the game mechanics, but what also seems to be a lack of new material since the original game (Monster Hunter Stories). The story seems to ride heavily on knowledge from the previous game which makes it difficult to stand alone on its own. The story also seems vague to our knowledge, but maybe that is something that entices you since you will have to play the game to find out what is happening.

Although if you enjoyed the first series in the game, then you will most likely enjoy this one as well. So there are many different pros and cons that you should be aware of when purchasing this game, which is why we have listed them out for you below.
