Master of the House DX

I will admit, I had no idea that reverse tower defense games were even a thing until I came across Master of the House DX! I cannot recall if I played the original version of this game or not, but the fact that this has monsters in it and you are the one in charge of them sounded cool to me. This is a quirky little game and when I fired it up, I did so with the plan of just checking it out for five or so minutes. An hour later, my tea is cold and I am having a great time putting these pixel monsters right where I want them.

Am I Late To The Party?

I have played a ton of tower defense games over the years, but with Master of the House DX being classed as a reverse tower defense game, I was not entirely sure what I was getting into. I started with tower defense games back when South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense Play came out, since then, it has been a genre I have really enjoyed and there are a ton of lewd tower defense games that I have had fun with over the years. Ok, I am not a total idiot and from the name, reverse tower defense, I had a pretty good idea of what this was going to be. However, I had no idea that this was an actual genre now with many games of this style.

Not Bad For My First

They say you never forget your first time and I guess that rings true here for me with Master of the House DX! The idea is that instead of building and protecting your towers from monsters that are trying to tear them down. You command the monsters and send them to take down the towers. You have a handful of monsters that you can pick from, each one costing a different amount to use and offering a different kind of attack. Like regular tower defense games, there is strategy at play here as you have to decide what kind of monster is best to use for a given situation. To be honest, it is not super deep, it seems more occupied with the player having fun and fun is certainly what I had here.

12 Maidens To Rule Them All!

There is not exactly a whole deal of story going on here with Master of the House DX, but the premise is fun and certainly something I got a kick out of. There are 12 maids and we basically need to save them. The thing is, I am not sure if we are the good guy or the bad guy, perhaps I missed something with the story, but the fact that we are controlling monsters, trying to break past towers and then take the maids, makes me feel like we are the bad guy of this story. I have to be honest, that is something I think is pretty fun and something I feel that the game could have leaned a little bit more into as it would have made it a little more unique.

Pixel Monsters In My Pocket

By the way, Monsters is my Pocket on the NES is an absolute hidden gem, if I were to do a top ten NES games list, that would 100 percent be on there. What does that have to do with Master of the House DX? Well, both games feature pixel art and pixel monsters, which is something that I think is pretty damn awesome. This is a lewd game so there are some fun lewd scenes in the game, but for the most part, I would say that this game fits more into the realm of charming than it does sexy. The maids are all super fun and I think that it is quite impressive that despite using a rather pixel art style, the developer managed to make them all look pretty unique. The monster designs could be a little more creative, but I still thought that they were pretty fun.

Pros:

• I thought that the pixel art was cool
• The monsters are kind a quirky and I liked that

• I beat the game and I think that is my time with the game done
• I wish that it leaned more into the being a bad guy controlling monsters thing
