Marble Trap

The brilliance of Marble Trap lies firmly in its simplicity. I am fully aware that as I describe to you today what this game is, you will think that it sounds simple and rather basic. However, this is a very, very addictive game, the kind of game where you will always want to push and beat your best times. However, it also serves as a great arcade style pick up and play game for those who want something they can beat in an hour or so, have fun with, and then never play again.

Inspired By The Classics

One of the main reasons that I was drawn to Marble Trap was because I was playing on my hacked NES Classic and I was playing Marble Madness which was one of my favorites as a kid. A quick search for games like it is what brought me to this game and I am so glad that it did. While it is a bit more face paced than Marble Madness was, I would say that what we have here is somewhere in the middle between that and the main game mode that is in the Super Monkey Ball games. It certainly has an arcade soul about it which is something I really like.

Gotta Go Fast!

No, we are not talking about Sonic the Hedgehog, although how has a Sonic game in this style not a thing? Marble Trap is the kind of game where the main goal is to get from point a to point b as quickly as possible. There is no dithering here or any kind of puzzles for you to solve, it is all about getting to the goal in the quickest time possible. The game controls great, the first few rounds I played with just the keys and it was fine. However, once I switched to my Xbox controller, I felt like I had complete control over this little ball and that was when it all clicked and I wanted to try and shave as many seconds, sometimes milliseconds of my times.

The Dangers Of Being A Marble

Marble Trap is actually way more challenging than you would think. You have various dangers in each stage ranging from pits, spikes, axes, canons, and more. The game is all about moving quickly and getting the fastest time possible so you never want to stop or slow down, but you have to try and focus on where you are on the stage as well as what is coming! It makes for some fun, but challenging gameplay, I found that the more I played it I kind of got into this Jedi like state where I became better and better at it. It makes for some real tension and I had a buddy round and we took turns trying to beat each other times and had a blast. He even got the game himself and we still compete to see who is the marble master.

Cute In A Flashy Way

Much like the gameplay and the overall vibe that Marble Trap has going on, the visuals are simple, but very effective. They have gone for this kind of flash or even mobile look and for this arcade style of game, I think that it works perfectly. The game even with its simple look has a lot of color and there is just something charming about it that I really like. With this being a game that is about speed, the best compliment I can give the presentation is that the game moves at a blistering pace with no slow down or any weird stuff happening which as you always need to be trying to look ahead is very welcomed.

Pros:

• The controls are nice and tight
• I liked the bright and charming presentation of the game
• It was very addictive trying to beat my and my friend's time
• It has an old school arcade vibe about it which I like

Cons:

• The game is a lot of fun, but it could do with more content
• The keys work fine, but I feel you really need a controller to be competitive
