Lost In Vivo

The indie game scene has seen a huge growth in the last decade thanks to the availability of online stores to small developers. From the early days of indie game development, one of the most popular genres for their projects has been horror. Just like in movies, horror games tend to have an easier time gathering around fans. Games like Slenderman and Darkwood have only released thanks to how relatively easy it is to publish these projects to the public. And now, Lost in Vivo, a game heavily inspired by the classic Silent Hills made its way into PC thanks to steam. Developed by the small team Kira, let's see what they were able to deliver here.

Less is more

Even in the first five minutes of gameplay, it is clear that Lost in Vivo is developed by a very small team. There are no unnecessary details nor any flashy visuals, the animations are basic and there is just enough to get you in the atmosphere of the game. This isn’t the same to say that it looks bad or that the design is bad, there’s the right amount of detail to make it look good and functional, and that’s enough.

In Lost in Vivo you face one of the biggest fears any animal lover may have, your dog escapes. To find your lost dog, you'll get into the sewers to try to rescue him. Even with how basic the visuals are, you get to feel the stress and the fright of the situations thanks to an excellent world-building.

The gameplay

This is a first-person game, and as such, it has all the basics of any game with this style. You can walk, run, crouch, interact with your surroundings, and pick up items. However, when it comes to combat, it does get a bit strange, and this may break a bit of the immersion. Even though you're in the sewers, it doesn't take long before you find firearms and shoot monsters up without a problem.

Claustrophobics beware

We can’t stress enough just how well this game manages the surroundings and the world-design to make you feel uncomfortable. At the end of the day, it forces you to face your fears, moving things, playing with you, changing the environment just slightly. It makes the player feel vulnerable, keep in mind that if you’re claustrophobic, this game will be really tough on you. And even if you’re not, it will make you feel like you are. That’s just thanks to how well they play with the environment in Lost in Vivo.

Lost in Vivo is a great game, heavily inspired by Silent Hill and many other horror classic horror games. The simple visuals and reduced gameplay really help in making you feel as if you’re playing an older game. One of the best things they do in Lost in Vivo is using the environment against the player, even in the smallest details. We tried to stay away from the plot here, it’s a bit simple so talking a lot about it could ruin the game experience for you

The game is designed to play tricks on you, you'll feel stressed and a bit confused, and that works great in making you feel uncomfortable. Making you feel uncomfortable is key to this kind of horror, and they do an excellent job at that.
