A proper sequel builds upon the basics established by its predecessor to deliver an experience that exceeds fan expectations in every aspect, and that's precisely what Infinity Blade 2 does. An even more grandiose adventure awaits at the tip of your fingers, delivering the same satisfying combat as its precursor.

Now featuring full voice acting and an expanded narrative, this game is everything that the first Infinity Blade sought to be. Still a technical masterpiece, the impressive visuals take what's possible on a mobile device to the next level.

Mending the Basics

Many gamers voiced a common complaint regarding the first Infinity Blade: the game felt like little more than a fancy tech demo. Sure, the combat was solid and the visuals were breathtaking – but that was mostly it.

Infinity Blade 2, on the other hand, focuses more on delivering a solid gameplay experience with a narrative that we would expect from a console release. Every aspect of the game's mythos has been redesigned to provide a more concise and engaging experience, including giving a name to the player character – Siris.

The game also picks up right where the first title ended. With the added pieces of lore, the world of Infinity Blade now feels more lively than ever before.

Technical Powerhouse

There's no doubt that the game is technically impressive, and features some of the most detailed graphics available on any mobile platform. The environments look stunning, and the characters feel alive, not to mention that the added lore gives the characters an additional layer of intrinsic depth.

It could be said that Infinity Blade 2 is in the same league as N.O.V.A.: two mobile games that push the boundaries of what phone games could look like. However, these improvements in visual fidelity also translate pretty well when it comes to the overall gameplay.

A new mode called the Vault of Tears allows players to traverse branching paths that are great to replay in short bursts. It might be a bit grindy after a while, but the end result is definitely worth it.

Touch-Powered Action

The controls of Infinity Blade 2 remain essentially untouched compared to its prequel. The basic sword and shield combos are back for a second round, and they're just as responsive as ever. However, some new combat options make the gameplay feel much more complete.

Along with the basic sword and shield, players can also wield heavy weapons and even dual-wield some smaller ones. It all comes together into one of the most satisfying combat experiences I've ever had the pleasure to play, and it goes well with Infinity Blade 2's concentrated gameplay that's been thoroughly designed for short gameplay sessions.

All in all, Infinity Blade 2 is, essentially, the perfect sequel. It builds on the basics of an already spectacular game, delivering a mobile gaming experience that's more than hard to beat.
