Gaucho and the Grassland

Gaucho and the Grassland is the heartwarming tale of Gaucho and his two companions, a dog and a horse. Together, they embark on an adventure to change the grasslands from wilderness to farmland.

While the game is a farming simulator at its core, the game has a Brazilian backdrop that brings a much-needed dose of originality to the genre.

Throughout the game are creatures from Brazilian myth, such as a fire snake that destroys the environment. You can access many of these mythical creatures through a magic portal and can gain new things by helping them solve their problems. In order to get there though, you’ll first have to open that portal - a task all in itself.

Unique Graphics and Sound

The graphics in the game are simplistic and a little chunky. The eyes on everyone are covered by hair unless they are very surprised, including female characters. The artwork is relatively simple, but isn’t displeasing.

The music sounds like it may be Brazilian, and comments from the character are typically said in Spanish, although subtitles are available in English.

Customizable Farm

A Gaucho is a skilled horseman from Brazilian folklore, and just like a true Gaucho, you’ll be expected to use that skillset in creating your farm. This could mean lassoing bulls to bring them to your farm or just customizing your buildings so that bull doesn’t escape again.

You can also herd cattle from horseback and customize the buildings both inside and out.

Customizable Characters

Your horse, dog and even your own character can also be customized. While they retain the chunky, simple 3D designs that makeup the palette of the game, you can change color, outfit and gender before starting a new game.

Win Friends

The game operates a bit like Stardew Valley in that making friends with villagers is important, and one way to their heart is through tea. In Stardew, everyone likes “Stardrop Tea” but in Gaucho and the Grassland, you’ll be winning hearts with matte. They may also task you with challenges in exchange for prizes. At the beginning of the game for example, agreeing to train your horse to race will give you access to an important item needed later in the game.

Crafting recipes, necessary materials, and all sorts of other things can be gotten by helping villagers and searching with the help of your dog. You’ll also need to gain a certain amount of benevolence in order to open the magical portal and break the curse on your family.

9

Although this is a farming game at its core, it does a great job of giving it a fresh coat of paint with the Brazilian theme. The authentic music, and mythical animals from Brazilian culture, all work together to present a whole new world. If you like farming simulators but are looking for something a little bit different, this is a great game to add to your collection.

Pros:

  • Original gameplay
  • Lots of customizable content

Cons:

  • None
