I love a good farming sim, and Farmer's Dynasty 2 caught my attention thanks to its time spanning gimmick, which I thought sounded really awesome. I was going to wait for this to come out of early access before I played it, but I am like an inpatient child, so I decided to play it now, and I am glad that I did. Granted, it still needs some work, but the seeds for a really awesome farming game are here, and this is a game that I am going to be coming back to time and time again. Please keep in mind that the version I am talking about is the early access, but I will also be talking about future planned features of the game, too.
Living The Best Farm Life
The story of Farmer's Dynasty 2 is pretty much what you would expect. To be fair, I would say that 95 percent of farming games have the classic story where you either A, inherit a run-down farm from a recently deceased family member, or B, you buy a really run-down farm that needs a great deal of work, which is the case here. Either way, the idea of the story is that you need to fix up the farm, grow crops, look after your livestock, and try your best to make sure that your farm grows so that you can buy more land, get better equipment, and so on. All that is 100 percent here, but there is another aspect of this game that I think is very cool and that involves time travel…. Well kinda.
Farming Through The Ages
When you start your farming journey in Farmer's Dynasty 2, you will do so all the way back in the 1960s. You have the farming equipment and technologies that were available to you back then. The idea is that you progress through the ages, unlocking new and better farming equipment and techniques as you go, all the way up to the modern day. You can travel back and forth between the two, but what you do in the past will have an effect on what happens in the future. This is such a freaking cool gimmick, and I cannot wait to see the way it all fully works once the game is complete. Oh, there is also a social aspect to things here, too, where you can get to know your neighbors and get new bits of story and lore through them.
Farm Life Isn’t Easy!
As of writing, the basics of a very solid farm game are here in Farmer's Dynasty 2. I liked the way that you started out in the 60s; there is a real Americana kind of thing going on here, and that was something I got a kick out of. You are tasked with taking care of the crops, and there is a real seasonal aspect to this where you have to plant them at a certain time, then harvest them before winter comes. You also have the animals that you need to tend to as well. There is already a lot to keep you busy here, but the fact that you are progressing through time is very interesting as you get better and more farming equipment as you go. I did encounter a few bugs here and there, but to be fair, the developer is very hands-on and is embracing this, and at the end of the day, that is what early access is for! This way, the developer can see any problems and try to fix them, which, from what I have seen, is exactly what they are trying to do.
Fixing Up The Old Homestead
As well as the running of the farm, Farmer's Dynasty 2 also gives you a lot of options when it comes to the look of your farm and your farmhouse. Build the house of your dreams, making it better and more modern as the years go by. In addition to this, there is also the social aspect of the game. You have neighbors, and by chatting with them, you can get new missions, and this is another layer of depth to the gameplay. I liked how the actual running and maintaining of the farm was the main focus of things at first, but the deeper you get into this and the fact that the story does span generations, I think that is going to be what ultimately hooks you and keeps you addicted.
It is way too easy to get excited when a game is in early access, and I am as guilty of that as anyone, but I really think that the potential for Farmer's Dynasty 2 to be one of the greatest farming games of all time is here. I had so much fun with this, and yes, it has issues, but as I said, that is the whole point of a game being in early access. I truly do think that the developer here wants to make a great game, and they are listening to the issues people have. If you like farming games, you have to give this a try, even if you are reading this, as the game is still in early access. If this keeps going the way it is going, I can see myself scoring this even higher!
Pros:
- I absolutely loved the through time aspect
- The actual farming feels fun
- There is a social aspect to the game, which I liked
- The developer seems truly invested in making this awesome
Cons:
- As the game is in early access, it does have a few bugs
- Some of the coolest features are not fully implemented

Game Reviews
Farmer's Dynasty 2 is a farming simulator where you are not the only one responsible for all the fields, crops and livestock. Farming has always been something of a family affair and large volumes of fields are difficult to handle if you work alone. Take over the family business, divide the responsibilities to everyone and maximize the production process. Buy new equipment, improve production processes and take your place in the list of the best production among the dynasties of farmers.
Pros of the game:
- Develop not only your farm, but also relationships with locals to start a family
- Improve your inherited farms
