Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II is the second in the Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku series of games. It largely improves on the first game and fixes many of the issues that plagued the first game.
The story picks up from where the first game stopped. Scenarios from the anime are reenacted in the game. If you didn’t play the first game and you aren’t a fan of the anime, you might it hard to keep up with the story. But you’ll still enjoy the game nevertheless.
In the first game, you could only play as Goku. But now, you can play as four other characters too. If you continue playing the game after you complete the story, you can unlock a final character. Each character has their own special attacks that adds a touch of variety to the gameplay.
Character transformation was introduced to the series in this game, so your character can transform to various forms. Enemy characters now have bars displaying their stats above their heads, just like what the player character had.
As it was in the previous game, you complete tasks in one location to open up another location. The faster you level up, the faster you can access other game locations. There are also some locations that are specific to some game characters. So, you will have to switch characters to access these locations. You can travel to locations almost whenever you want as opposed to the first game where you could only access locations by following a strict order set by the story.
The game world now contains capsules that could be used to raise energy levels and boost other stats. The graphics and the audio have also improved. The game animations, environments, characters and story now feel more dynamic and vibrant. As a Dragon Ball Z fan, you feel the Dragon Ball Z vibes more from this game as opposed to the first game. There are fewer bugs in this game and the enemy A.I. has improved a lot.
Everything from the text box to the game menu has been reworked and improved. The game developers really listened to critics and fans and made this game a much better version of the first Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku game.
The game is far longer than the first game. Now, you have about 25 hours+ of gameplay as opposed to the 5 hours of gameplay, the first game had. Now you have more side quests than the second game. The side quests also contain a wider variety of things to do.
Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku II is a lovely upgrade from the mediocre offering that the first game was. A lot of things have been polished and you will enjoy this game regardless of if you are a Dragon Ball Z fan or not. The game also does a good job of showcasing familiar elements from the game.

Like its predecessor, Legacy of Goku II has a lot going for it-impressive visuals, a decent soundtrack, and boatloads of beloved DB characters that will no doubt endear it to the Z hardcore. But underneath the surface, it suffers from a few annoying problems. For starters, while this is a longer quest than the original Legacy, its length is mostly due to having to level up via lots of repetitive, random battles. Would a Saiyan warrior like Piccolo really spend half an hour killing woodland creatures to gain experience? I don’t think so. And the combat stinks-attacks often look like they’re striking the air, yet they still somehow manage to connect. Bah! Padding out the gameplay even further is a boatload of fetch quests, like the unbelievably complicated task of getting Gohan past a crowd of people, which involves finding a sandwich, a newspaper, an antique record, and a crashed school bus in order to start a parade. Hey, wait.. .couldn’t Gohan just, ya know, flyover? Unless you’re a huge DBZ fan already, you’ll probably want to skip this Legacy.
Why are Super Saiyans running endless errands for every schmuck they encounter? Every minute squandered fetching autographs and snack food is time I could've spent saving the world. And if I really do possess the power to annihilate whole planets, why couldn’t I keep a few stray dogs at bay? Seriously, for most of the game, if I wasn’t being someone’s bitch, I was running scared from pissant critters. The overarching plot is fittingly epic and the graphics are fine, but plebian puzzles and problem-fraught combat guarantee frustration in this humdrum quest.
Despite its numerous flaws and ridiculously short length, I somehow managed not to utterly despise the first Legacy game. This sequel is definitely better, yet it still suffers from many of the same fundamental problems. Most notably, the shoddy hit detection makes fighting enemies highly frustrating. On the good side, the graphics and sound are very solid, and the controls much better. As a O0ZRPG it suffices, but doesn’t particularly impress.
