Cricket 19 hit the markets on May 27, 2019, developed and published by Big Ant Studios. Falling under the category of sports simulation, the title received overwhelmingly positive reviews. As a sport Cricket has a niche to cater to, and fans of the game will be more than happy with the game presented. As you navigate through different game modes and customizable options, Cricke 19 delivers a superb experience.
An Elegant Display
Big Ant Studios tried its best to license as many leagues as possible; however, some teams remained unlicensed. Here’s where the community comes in. Most of the teams have been created and can be downloaded. At the same time, the venues of the 2019 Ashes series have all been approved and are faithful replicas of the real thing. The venues and the game presentation offer a grandeur that previous entries failed to achieve. In contrast, close-up camera movements provide insight into little moments of celebration and guidance that make the game feel alive.
From a visual standpoint, Cricket 19 was the best-looking game of the franchise thus far, even if the occasional frame drop or low framerates were present. There isn’t anything that takes away from experience, as sound design, difficulty, AI, and gameplay are decent. Nonetheless, Cricket 19 could undoubtedly make improvements surrounding animations, the quality of the AI, and the umpiring. However, considerable praise is how simple the controllers and how intuitive the game becomes even for newcomers.
Batting and Driving
Cricket 19 offers multiple game modes, with the T20, ODI, or Test Match Glory. They offer players the opportunity to guide a team through the ranks and explore different matchups. However, building a rookie career mode with the recently improved AI is a relaxing and enjoyable experience for single players. On top of that, there is a Former Glory mode with endless support from the community and offers players a way to be inserted and replay some of the game’s most iconic matches and plays from the sport.
The community and support from the developers make this game feel so alive. An enormous amount of customizable content can be made and created. As the aforementioned Former Glory Mode, other things such as players, stadiums, logos, scenarios, and entire teams can be created. The process is complex and demanding, but the sport has passionate players who provide an almost endless supply of content.
Last but not least, playing the actual game feels more rewarding than ever, with a finetuned control system, more realistic physics, and responsive AI. This makes Cricket 19 an awesome single-player game and an excellent introduction to the sport for curious gamers. Nonetheless, the game has a hard time with multiplayer mode and laughable narration.
