Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 The Official Video Game manages to show an abundance of great sports in their game while still covering each one well.

Variation in Sports

There are 18 different sports you can play in Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Each game has a distinctly different playstyle, so you won’t be able to play one and copy the same movements to win another. All of the games are different enough to feel fresh and unique, while also being easy enough to figure out how to play right away. There’s also room for growth in the game, learning how to do better at playing each sport. While each game is by no means complex, it’s still detailed enough to make skill an aspect of play.

Multiplayer option

One of the most fun aspects of the game is the local multiplayer option. In this mode, you can play with a friend to see who is better at each sport. All past performances are tracked, so you’ll know for sure after a few games who really is the best. Multiplayer also extends outside of locally, which is good because single player can feel isolated and a little dull. People are what make this game alive, so it’s more fun to go multiplayer if you can.

Silly fun

If you’ve ever played past Olympics games such as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, you know how silly some Olympic themed games will get in an effort to not be too boring. Following in the footsteps of games like this one, Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has its silly side as well.

The game allows you to change the look and feel of your character in silly ways. Try doing sports in a school girl uniform, or a bikini. You can earn more points by competing in these silly costumes. It’s even more fun when you use the multi-player option to compete with others who are also in silly costumes.

Lacks Depth

Unfortunately, while the game is fairly good as far as Olympic sport games go, there’s more to be done. There’s no story or career mode, which the game could really benefit from. Understandably, each sport is also less detailed than it would be if the game was exclusively focused on a particular sport. If you’re expecting the BMX racing to compare to Trials Fusion, you’ll be disappointed.
