Closed Area Block Z

If there was a game that is more fitting for the modern gamer than this one, I’ll eat my own hat. As Closed Area Block Z is a game that takes the current Coronavirus issue and cranks it up to eleven, allowing us to live in a nightmarish, satirical fantasy where the worst has happened, the majority of society has fallen and while the cure is within reach, it’s still so far away. This is a game that combines todays reality with a full blown zombie apocalypse to produce some dramatic and gripping gameplay.

This game plays like other zombie thrillers like The Last of Us, Back 4 Blood, Left 4 Dead, and World War Z. However, has gameplay that is more in line with games like TMNT or Streets of Rage. This is a title that boasts an excellent concept, but is the result as good? We find out in our review of Closed Area Block Z.

A Little Too On The Nose?

Ok, so let’s talk about what the game does well. In terms of visuals, the game runs with a hand-drawn, almost fairytale storybook sort of art style. The gameplay runs smooth in a very arcade sort of fashion and overall, there isn’t much to complain about. However, it seems like that is the case for a very particular reason. This game is chocked full of borrowed and stolen assets.

This is perhaps best showcased by the lead character which is clearly Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. This trend doesn’t end there as the games monsters and scenery all seem eerily familiar as well and while the gameplay is handled fine as is the UI and animation, you can’t help but feel like you are getting nothing new from this game. Except for, of course, the plot. Thankfully, this game does deliver a well written and fleshed out story. Which, while not always paced brilliantly, is gripping for the most part. Players will get a lot of joy out of uncovering the secrets of Block Z and there is a good level of tension as to whether or not the cure will be secured. Plus, there is some raunchy content thrown in for good measure. So if you ever wanted to take Tifa for a spin, in a way, now you can.

The Verdict

Overall, the majority of this score is awarded for the unique and well delivered story. The rest in truth was an admittedly very well done copy and paste job. The developer must be batting away law suits left right and centre here.

Let’s be honest here, most of us decided to give Closed Area Block Z a shot because of the hot main character who may or may not look like a certain heroine from a popular RPG series! This is a 2D lewd action game, and it is one that I actually ended up having a lot of fun with. I found this to be a pretty solid experience, and it is one of those games where, if I am being brutally honest, I did not have super high expectations for, but the game ended up being way better than I could ever have imagined it would be. If you are into old-school 2D action games, this is well worth checking out.

She Sure Is My Fantasy… My Final Fantasy

Ok, we need to address the elephant in the room, and that is the fact, Closed Area Block Z has us playing as the gorgeous-looking Tifa from Final Fantasy VII! If you want to get technical about it, this is clearly her design from the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and I am more than ok with that. Now, I saw a couple of screenshots of the game before I played it, and it was Tifa that drew me in. However, I got a huge kick out of the fact that the developer has called her Tifania, and let me tell you, Tifania is a badass and humanity's last hope!

The Mission To Save Us All

The story in Closed Area Block Z is far better than it has any right to be! On the surface, this looks like another game where a virus has decimated mankind, and that is kind of true. However, the twist here is that there is a lab that has a cure which can help mankind get back on its feet and we, playing as Tifania are heading into this lab that is filled with all kinds of monsters to try and get the data so that we have a shot at turning this world around. The bits of dialogue here and there are well written, and I did find myself pretty invested in finding this cure.

Locked, Loaded And Huge Boobs

While at first glance, Closed Area Block Z may not look like anything special, I found this to be a very exciting and fun game to play. It plays kind of like a 16-bit action game, think of stuff more like The Punisher on Sega Mega Drive/Genesis or Alien vs Predator on the SNES than something like Final Fight or Streets of Rage. I say that because guns are the way that you fight the monsters in this game, and the controls feel solid and responsive, you get upgrades, and there are various missions that you have to complete, such as finding keycards. It is not a super long game, but that works to its advantage. It is the kind of game that, when you look at it, it may not seem all that special, but there is just something about the gameplay that feels great, which makes you want to keep on playing.

Getting Some At The End Of The World

We already talked about how great Tifa…. Sorry, Tifania looks in Closed Area Block Z, but the whole game has a pretty solid art style. They have clearly borrowed or at least been inspired by other games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill for the monster designs, and that is something I think is very cool. I also liked how large the characters are, they are these nice and big detailed sprites, but if I am being critical, smoother animation would have been nice and some boob bouncing as Tifania walks too! There are some very hardcore XXX scenes in the game, but these are mostly our Final Fantasy babe getting ravaged by monsters.

Pros:

• The main character looks like Tifa, and that is awesome
• I was impressed by how fun the 2D action gameplay was
• This game has a really cool zombie/end of the world story
• This was far, far better than I imagined it would be!

Cons:

• The getting banged by monsters is not really for me
• I really wish she had a bit of “bounce” as she moved
