Breakwaters

Breakwaters is possibly the most exciting and interesting survival-style game to be released in 2021. The game is going to be in early access for a while, but it is showing a ton of promise. If you are someone who loves games that put you in an interesting world where you have to scavenge for resources, build a home for yourself and fight enemies to survive. You are going to be well and truly in your element here with this game.

The Titans Will Destroy

I am not exactly sure what the story of Breakwaters is, but I can tell you the premise. You are on a strange land that is procedurally generated and water is a huge theme of the world (and the gameplay too) you need to do what you can to survive and you have probably figured out that getting food, a home, and so on is key.

However, there is a twist here and that is the titans. These are these hulking beasts that emerge from the water and only have destruction on their mind. There are smaller enemies too, golems that you will have to deal with too. I am hoping that when the game is finished it is fleshed out so we can see what these things are and where they come from.

Water, Water, Everywhere

The main thing I want to talk about in terms of the gameplay that Breakwaters has is the way it deals with water. Form huge oceans, lakes, and crashing waves, water is very interesting in this game. You can get these crystals that you can use to shape water the way you want it. I do not mean build things, but change the way it acts. For example, you can throw one in the middle of an ocean and it will create this big sort of vacuum where the water disappears and you can walk around and explore.

You can make invisible walls to keep waves at bay and you can shape water in many clever ways. There are many treasures hidden in the water and this is a way that you can get in there and explore it. I think this is a very cool gameplay mechanic and one I am excited to spend some real time with.

The Art Of Survival

As well as the whole water thing, Breakwaters is pretty stacked with things that you have to do. You need to explore the land to find items. Items so that you can build a homestead. You can play on your own, or team up with other players and try and build a real community where you all work together. You can also farm in the game so that you can get food. It is the typical stuff that you would expect in a survival game.

I mentioned before about the titans and golems that you will encounter and from the trailer to looks pretty intense when you are walking down the beach and a big monster comes out of the water.

Pros:

• I love the way you can mess with water
• The titan designs are very, very cool
• There are a lot of things you need to do in order to survive
• You can play alone or with buddies

Cons:

• I am not sure if the story is going to be very deep
• It may be hard to get into
