Editor's Choice

Here, you will find the best PlayStation games of all time with our epic collection. Here you will find the best PS1 game collections and as there are so many, we wanted to highlight a few that we feel would be a great place to start!

Final Fantasy Series

The Final Fantasy series well and truly went on to bigger and better things on the original PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII is one of the most important RPGs of all time and it was the first game in the franchise to appear on the PlayStation 1. We would get two other full Final Fantasy games as well as more than a few spin offs as well. When it comes to Final Fantasy, the original PlayStation is home to some of the best games the series has to offer.

Metal Gear Series

While the Metal Gear Solid Series did not get its start on the PlayStation, it is still a series that goes hand in hand with the Sony PlayStation as it was the incredible Metal Gear Solid remake/reimaging or whatever you want to call it of that took this series to the mainstream! Play as Snake in an epic story that got taken to a whole new level thanks to the power offered by the original PlayStation.

Resident Evil Series

One of the most amazing video game series of all time, the Resident Evil series, got its start on PlayStation. Well the Sega Saturn, too, but it was the Sony PlayStation that most people associate with this series. We got the original trilogy, including the blockbuster Resident Evil 2, which is arguably one of the greatest video game sequels of all time! On the PlayStation, you can play as Chris, Jill, Claire, Leon, and more as you try to survive in Racoon City!

Crash Bandicoot Series Download

Bonza mate, get ready for some wacky action down under with the Crash Bandicoot series, one of the best PlayStation game series of all time. The original trilogy of Cash Bandicoot games can be found on PS1, but you also get some awesome spin-offs offs too. Did you know that many people actually prefer the original Crash Team Racing over Mario Kart 64? Hey, we certainly would not argue with that!

Silent Hill Series

Ok, you may have to bear with us on this one as the Silent Hill series certainly saw more releases on other consoles such as the PlayStation 2. However, there would be no Silent Hill series without the original PlayStation as the very first trip to Silent Hill was here on the OG PS1! This was true survival horror, a kind of horror that would send a shiver down your spine… before it ripped it out!

Tekken Games

When it comes to fighting games on the PlayStation 1, the Tekken Series is the most associated with the console, and it would see many released on Sony’s epic little grey box! All three of the Tekken games are fantastic, but Tekken 3 was truly something extra special. Tons of great looking fighters are here for you, but it was the sheer amount of game modes and the variety that they offered that make this an all time great on the PlayStation.

Gran Turismo Series

When it comes to realistic racing action on PlayStation, the series that comes to mind is always the Gran Turismo series. Did you know that when the original Gran Turismo game was shown, some people thought that it was early PlayStation 2 footage? That is how good that original game looked and moved. This set the tone for the incredible sequel and the other games that would be released on all future PlayStation consoles!

Spyro Game Series

The PlayStation 1 was home to some incredible 3D action platformers and one of the characters that is most associated with the console is Spyro. Words cannot do justice to just how much of a big deal the original Spyro the Dragon game was! It was the 3D platformer that the original PlayStation console was waiting for, and Spyro and his fire-breathing antics did not disappoint!

Castlevania Series

The Castlevania series may have gotten started during the 8 and 16-bit generation, but it was the PS1 that truly changed what this vampire slaying series would become. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was the first game in the Metroidvania games series, and it changed everything that we thought we knew about Castlevania. Just when you think the adventure is over, the castle flips, and a new adventure begins!

Parasite Eve Games

When it comes to the best PlayStation games, especially the best horror games on PlayStation, the Parasite Eve series is always brought up. These games offered a messed up horror story, and what makes them so unique is that Parasite Eve 2 offers a far more action approach over the RPG-style mechanics that were present in the original game. If you love the original PlayStation and horror, this game series is a must-play for you.

Tomb Raider Games Download

Lara Croft was a gaming icon in the 90s and early 00s, and she would get to go on five incredible adventures on the PS1. You could argue that the hype around Tomb Raider II and the third game was where her popularity peaked, but all five games on the original PlayStation allow you to go on a wild globetrotting adventure with one of the most badass video game characters of all time!

Ridge Racer Games

You cannot talk about the best PlayStation games without mentioning the Ridge Racer series. The original Ridge Racer was a launch title and showed just how much power the Sony PlayStation had to offer. With amazing visuals, epic arcade racing, and a pumping soundtrack, that game sold millions of PlayStation consoles. The crazy thing is, each Ridge Racer game released on the PS1 would get better and better!

Wipeout Games

The original Wipeout was a massive early hit for the PlayStation and that series would get even better as the years went on. Many people say that Wipeout 2097 is their favorite game in the Wipeout series, but all of the games on the PS1 offer you exciting futuristic racing action and awesome dance music to get you pumped up. These games were another early example of just what the 32-bit generation of gaming had to offer.

Tony Hawk's Games

To say that the leap (or should we say kickflip) from the original game to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is huge is a massive understatement! This series helped give Skateboarding a boom period in the early 00s. While the first two Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games are well loved on the PS1. Many people do not realize that the PS1 also got ports of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 as well and they are pretty solid ports too!

Twisted Metal Games

If you played on the PlayStation in the mid-'90s, you no doubt know what a big deal the Twisted Metal series is. This is the game that truly made vehicular combat a thing. Not only was the racing and carnage awesome, but games like the epic Twisted Metal 2 gave you all these interesting characters to race as, each one with their own lore and story! This truly was like nothing else at the time!

Oddworld Series

The original PlayStation gave us some truly memorable characters and one of those was a reluctant hero called Abe! The Oddworld Series were these awesome puzzle platformers that had amazing visuals, fantastic storytelling, and some very quirky characters. The original Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is an all time PlayStation classic and a game that more than holds up today. It even got a sequel on the PS1, which some say is even better!

Legacy Of Kain Series

When anyone puts together a list of the best PlayStation games, one game that is 99/100 mentioned is the incredible Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver which is one of the best 3D action games that the system has to offer. While this is an all time classic on the PS1, the Legacy of Kain series does not stop here, and we highly recommend that you check out the other exciting games that this series has to offer.

Syphon Filter Series

If you love 3rd person action and adventure on the original PlayStation, the Syphon Filter series has you covered. The original Syphon Filter is a true classic that had us playing as Gabe Logan as he uncovered a huge conspiracy that threatened the world. However, there would be two more Syphon Filter games on the PS1, with the second one being regarded as the best, before the series would make the jump to the PlayStation 2.

Driver Series

It may sound crazy, but on the original PlayStation, the Driver series was a legit rival to the Grand Theft Auto series! There is no denying that the series peaked on the PS1 with the awesome Driver 2, which allowed you to get out of the car! It is truly outstanding what they were able to do with this game, especially on the relatively modest PlayStation hardware. Other Driver games may have come after, but none matched that second game!

V-Rally Games

V-Rally was an epic series of rally games that were officially licensed and some of the best rally racing games on the PlayStation. The first game was great, but V-Rally 2: Expert Edition is one of the best racing sequels that the console has to offer. If you love fast racing, mud flying racing action, the V-Rally games are a prime example of some of the best racing games that you can play on PS1.
