Contra Games

When you think of the classic Contra Games, it is no doubt the NES you are thinking about. That original Contra for NES truly was something special and was one of the most exciting and challenging games for the NES. The NES would also get the incredible Super C which many people see as the superior game. While these are challenging, just remember the good old Konami Code and that will give you a fighting chance as you try and put all of these creepy aliens in their place! If you want Contra on NES, we have it all, even the Probotector Games for you European gamers!

Super Mario Series

Of course, you cannot have a section dedicated to NES Games without the awesome Super Mario Games. Granted the obvious choice here are all the amazing classic Super Mario platform games such as the iconic, Super Mario Bros 3. However, in addition to all those classic Mario adventures, we have all the Super Mario spin-off games that were released on the NES featuring the likes of Yoshi, Wario, and of course, the fantastic and fun puzzle game that is Dr. Mario. Here you can check out Mario in all his 8-bit pixelated glory!

The Legend of Zelda Series

You could argue that The Legend of Zelda Series is one of the biggest and most iconic series that Nintendo has created! It all started with that top down adventure where you found out it was dangerous to go alone, The Legend of Zelda. What is interesting about the Zelda games on the NES is that the second game, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, is radically different from what that first game offered. It truly is one of the most unique games in the entire Legend of Zelda franchise! If you want to see where Link became the hero that we all know and love, it is right here!

Battletoads Games

When it comes to classic NES Games you will often hear the term NES hard or NES tough. Well, it does not get much more tougher than the Battletoads Games! The Turbo Tunnel level in the original Battletoads on NES is one of the hardest stages of any game that the console has to offer. However, these grossly named toads had one other adventure on the NES as they teamed up with the Lee brothers in the slightly less difficult, Battletoads and Double Dragon. Hey, these games may be super tough, but they are also a lot of fun.

Mega Man Games

The NES gave birth to some of the most iconic video game characters of all time and right up there is Mega Man who of course was the star of six Mega Man Games on the console! All six games are fun to play in their own right as you smash the Robot Masters on your way to putting Dr. Wily! However, Mega Man 2 not only is it regarded as the best Mega Man game on the NES. It is often put into the best games on the NES in general! These may be challenging, but they are also very rewarding games as you figure out what the best order is to take down the evil Robot Masters! You really cannot go wrong with Mega Man on the NES!

TMNT Games

The heroes in a half shell were very well represented on the NES as there is a trilogy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Games that are all fun in their own right. Granted that first game may be hard as nails, but it still offers some butt-kicking TMNT action. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game is a fantastic 8-bit version of one of the greatest arcade games of all time! One thing that is really cool about the TMNT games on the NES is that as well as the beat-em-up trilogy, there is also a version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for the NES, one of the few one-on-one fighters that the system has to offer.

Double Dragon Games

The NES Games library is home to some truly epic beat-em-ups and one of the most iconic series has to be those that are found in the Double Dragon Games series. The first that the NES has is more than just a straight arcade port, it puts its own stamp on the arcade classic, offering some light RPG-style mechanics. Double Dragon also has two sequels on the NES, these ones offer some butt kicking two-player action and are a lot of fun also!

Micro Machines Series

Who can forget those awesome little toys that were super popular in the 80s and 90s? Heck, they were even used as a trap in the iconic Home Alone movie. Anyway, the Micro Machines Series is a really fun series of racing games where you get to race as some of the most awesome Micro Machines! This is a super fast and fun arcade style racer and the original Micro Machines game on the NES is one of the best versions of this classic.

RoboCop Games

Part man, part machine, all cop, Robocop! Robocop was a huge deal in the 80s and the early 90s too, so much so that there is a trilogy of Robocop Games on the NES. The first one is seen as a real classic and a fantastic side-scrolling action game that truly makes you feel like you are Robocop. Robocop 2 is not a bad game either and when it comes to the third... Hey, let’s stay positive and say that at least the first two games are good!

Ultima Series

While the NES library is incredible, one genre of games that people never really think of when it comes to the best NES Games is RPGS. However, while the Ultima Series of RPGS is best known for being a PC game. There is actually a whole series of Ultima games on the NES. If you are a fan of RPGs, these games are well worth your time checking out as they show that in the right hands, the NES is more than capable of offering a deep, fun, and challenging RPG experience!

Superman Games

Up, up, and away with the man in red and blue, Superman. One of the most iconic characters of all time, the Man of Steel may not have been treated as well in video game form as The Dark Knight. However, there are still some great Superman Games out there. One of which makes its home in the Metropolis that is the NES. This is a really fun action game that has a more cutesy take on the last son of Krypton.

Castlevania Series

There are many series of games that go hand in hand with the NES and the Castlevania Games is one of those series. It all started with the original Castlevania which was unlike anything we had ever seen before! Whipping monsters on your way to Dracula was awesome stuff. However, the final game in the series on the NES, Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse showed that the aging NES was still capable of wowing gamers as it is honestly one of the best games in the entire Castlevania franchise.

2D Platformer Games

2D Platformer Games truly became something special on the NES. From the likes of Mario, Kirby, Little Samson, Ducktales and many, many more iconic 2D games. The NES was really where the 2D Platformer Games genre took off! Even to this day, the NES is home to some of the best 2D platformer games of all time!

Metroidvania Games

There would be no Metroidvania Games genre without the NES! It all started with that original Metroid game which was an absolute monster of a hit for Nintendo! Giving us the character of Samus, Samus would go on to become one of the most popular characters that the Big N would create. There are so many Metroidvania games these days that it is honestly hard for them to stand out from each other, however, it all started right here on the NES!

Run-and-Gun Games

The NES is home to some awesome Run-and-Gun Games. Here you can play the likes of Contra, Mega Man and some other cool and iconic 8-bit titles! The NES is just packed to the brim with epic action games and if you have an itchy trigger finger, you will find all kinds of 8-bit running and gunning action right here. They may lack the wow factor of a modern run-and-gun style of game. However, these games have a real charm to them that makes them so much fun to play.

Old School Games

When you think of Old School Games, the NES is probably one of the first systems that comes to mind. There are just so many iconic games for the NES, it truly does have one of the best game libraries of all time.
