Trapped On Monster Island

Ever since Tom Hanks went a little bit mad and became rather close with a football, we thought we had seen all there was to see regarding desert island adventures. However, within the gaming community, being stranded on a mysterious island has become a topic that is in vogue right now. So with that in mind, the title Trapped on Monster Island aims to offer a RPG adventure like no other with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Plus, just a dash of partial nudity, just for good measure.

This game plays much like other monster related RPGs such as the Pokemon series, TemTem and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth. It also shares the same mysterious island setting as games like Stranded Deep, The Forest and Evan’s Remains. Plus, it is also reminiscent of games like Escape from Fortress Lugohm and Terrible Labratory. Here is our review of Trapped on Monster Island.

A Desert Island Adventure

In this title, you take control of a girl named Eris. She was a servant aboard a ship which capsized overnight. Remarkably, after the terrible storm when she awoke she had survived and was washed up on a strange deserted island. This sets the scene for the events of this title. The story is a strange but rather compelling one, complete with island goddesses, curses, monsters who lust after the main character and of course, a plan to escape the island and finally grant Eris a normal life. While we think the story could have been more cohesive at times, we have to say that there is plenty of creativity and imagination shown and throughout the game’s run, we are sure that you’ll find something you enjoy.

Then as for the aesthetic choices of this title. The game swaps from visual novel to top-down 2D RPG and then into a turn-based combat mode not unlike Final Fantasy VII. So as you would expect, it’s a rather eclectic set of ideas on your screen. However, each of these are handled well, the character models, environments and UI all look and feel fantastic in action. Leading to an immersive and visually attractive experience throughout.

Plus, we appreciate that the gameplay had a complex combat mode, plenty of choices for the character to make and also, the top-down 2D gameplay allowed the player to explore the luscious island too. Which is a welcome addition and a rewarding one at that.

The Verdict

Overall, Trapped on Monster Island offers a wealth of interactive bliss for RPG and Eroge fans alike. The story is great for the most part, the combat and exploration within the game are superb and the artistic direction of this game has to be admired. We will admit that the story can be a little bit inconsistent and lack cohesion at times.
