Game Reviews

  • Machine: Genesis
  • Manufacturer: Konami.

Real nice animation and real cute characters are a definite plus for this game. Hard to manage controls and a repetitious sound track are definitely minuses. The game is entertaining, however. Spielberg fans will like it.

Buster, Babs, and the whole Looney bunch return in a wild 'n' wacky sports extravaganza. But the CPU that joins them is a formidable opponent.

You're in the Bunny

All-Stars recreates the feel of childhood pick-up sports games, with Looney Tunes characters in place of your friends. You can bowl, run an obstacle course, and play soccer or basketball. The game- play options let you play against the computer, a friend, or in a story mode where you progress through the games to win a trophy naming you the all-time Acme All-Statr!

You choose positions for your four teammates (Plucky, Hamton, Babs, and Buster) for soccer and basketball (you play the other games as Buster). Each player is endowed with certain Looney Tunes traits: Hamton turns into a bouncing ball of pork, Plucky flies through the air, and Buster and Babs race with rabbit speed to the goal.

You're Getting Warner!

The graphics are just as great here as they were in Buster's Hidden Treasure. Each sprite moves with smooth animation, and the backgrounds are colorful. The tunes could be better. The tinny theme song is offset by the loony lounge music that accompanies the game. It's barely noticeable, so it shouldn't ruffle your fur.

The simple controls require only three buttons: one for passing, one for shooting, and a third for power-ups. Some sports, like bowling, require such reflex finesse that it's almost impossible to hit a spare, much less a strike.

ProTips:

  • Forget about Hamton's power-up. You can never come out of it In time to do anything useful.
  • In soccer, never try to shoot for the goal on your own. Instead, pass it to another player and let them kick it in.
  • In the obstacle course, memorize where the barriers are and avoid them. Also, don't think you're In first place just because you finished before everyone else. Check the bottom of the screen for your status.

Hardcore Hare

This game is a little harder than it should be, especially around the seventh match. In the story mode, the CPU's players become more difficult opponents, while your players remain at the same skill levels.

Most young kids will be frustrated, then mad, and ultimately bored with this game. Older fans of Tiny Toons (and you know you're out there) may get a kick out of this one, but you won't stay interested. Let's hope Konami hasn't given up on side-scrolling Tiny Toons games.

  • Be careful when inbounding the ball in basketball. Crafty computer players will go for an interception.
  • Plucky's Flying Ball Drop Is a good way to get a last-minute three-pointer In basketball.

Tiny Toon Adventures

Buster Bunny's on a treasure hunt, but there's more at stake than untold riches! He finds a mysterious note that tells a tale of the hidden pieces to a treasure map.

Unfortunately, that sly brat, Montana Max, eavesdrops on Buster's good fortune. As usual, Montana's plan is to kidnap Babs, again. Now Buster must hightail it after his nemesis and his girl, but he needs help.

A Little Help from Little Friends

Buster puts out the call for some of his closest Tiny Toon buds to give him a hand (or whatever). Plucky Duck, Little Beeper, Sneezer the mouse, Hampton Pig, Calamity Coyote, and Batsy all join Buster's team. Even clumsy Concorde Condor is willing to try his darnedest.

Buster's main pal in this game is Go Go Dodo. After you clear each of the game's six stages, Go Go will transport Buster to an exit area where he can find a piece of the treasure map. Then he can enter a variety of bonus areas, where you'll be able to score some points to help him track down Montana Max. The adventure will cover a variety of locations, including a forest, waterfalls, and a huge plain. Search carefully, because there'll be hidden stages aplenty.

Just to keep Buster's search interesting, Konami plans to have a few adversaries try to cross him. Well-intentioned, but annoying, Elmyra leads the pack. Several new characters don't have names yet. They'll be an alligator, a fish, a frog, a shark, and a ghost.

What's Up!

Montana Max can run, but he can't hide. You might have to run too, if you want to track down this Tiny Toon game.
