I was playing The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology for around ten minutes when it hit me, this is actually part of another series of games. It is one of those weird situations where this is classed as an expansion or DLC, but you do not need the main game to play it…. So does that not just make this its own game? It is super weird, and it is something I have seen other lewd games do before, and not just that, but I have seen some AAA games do this as well. Anyway, this is a lewd RPG, and one that I had a lot of fun with, as it offers a fun twist on some classic fairy tale characters.
Goblins, Goblins Everywhere
The premise of the plot of The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology is something that I think is a lot of fun. Basically, the game takes place in a fantasy world, and in this fantasy world, a race of horny goblins needs to boost their ranks. Of course, the best way to do this is to hunt and kidnap some beauties that are in the land so that they can have their wicked goblin way with them and, of course, have lots of little goblin kids that can grow up and join their goblin army! There is a decent fan translation for the game, which is good, as so far, it has not officially been translated from Japanese.
The Fairest of Them All!
What I thought was great about this game is kind of stooged off with its title, The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology. You see, the ladies in this game that we will be playing as are characters from some of the most famous fairy tales or fables, if you will. We have the likes of Little Red Riding Hood, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, the Snow Queen, Sleeping Beauty, and more. I thought this was very cool, and out of the three games that I have played, which are part of this series, I think the story and premise of this game is by far the best.
A Helping Hand From The Past
If you have played a turn based lewd RPG before, The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology should not cause you any trouble when it comes to figuring out what the game is all about. You basically go around and get into many different battles, which start off easy and then gradually get harder. You can add new characters to your ranks, and there is a solid upgrade and progression system to help you get stronger, as well as new items. Now, while this is classed as an expansion, but you can play it on your own. If you do have a save file from the previous games, you will get a helping hand in the form of some key items, which will greatly help you on your journey, especially when you are starting out.
A Classic Kind Of Style
I am a huge fan of the art style of this series, and especially The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology. While I just ran off a list of classic characters, these are not the same designs of these characters that you would see in Disney games. Instead, they have gone for a more traditional style, which fits in much better with this fantasy world the developer has created. The lewd content looks fantastic and has a very high end style to it. However, while I think the chicks are hot, the ugly goblins and their weird goblin wangs were not something that I was all that excited to look at. The actual gameplay looks great; it has a cool, pixel art style to it that I thought gave the game a ton of charm.
The previous games were fun, but even though The Goblin's Burrow-the Fable: Smut Anthology is classed as technically an expansion. I think that this is my favorite of the games so far. The inclusion of these iconic characters and the way that the characters were portrayed was something that I thought was a great deal of fun. The RPG gameplay has more substance to it than you may be expecting, but at the same time, you do not have to worry about this being too hard to figure out. I will say, make sure that you do the work and get the translation patch before you play, unless you understand Japanese, of course.
Pros:
- The classic fables and fantasy setting is cool
- I liked the different characters we met
- The turn based combat is fun and quite challenging
- Hand-drawn visuals really bring this game to life
Cons:
- You do need to secure a translation patch
- The goblins getting laid is kind of gross
