Vostok Games is a small game developer from Ukraine that kinda surprised a lot of people when they came out of nowhere with Survarium. But even though Vostok Games was starting up, they weren't new in the business. Survarium was developed by the team of GSC Game World, and if that name rings a bell it is for a good reason, we'll get to that later on though. So, at this point we have yet to mention anything about the game but don't worry, that's what we are about to do. Let's see what Survarium is all about!

About the game

Survarium is an action MMO free-to-play game, set in a post-apocalyptic world after an environmental disaster that nearly eliminated the totality of the human race. The disaster has now taken the shape of a forest that grows at a fast pace, destroying everything that might come in the way of its accelerated growth. However, this living forest has an affinity for eating weapon manufacturers, military bases, and the laboratories that are working on finding a way to stop the chaos.

It takes place in 2026, and the players are supposed to find a way to survive and defend themselves against the fierce forest attacks. The players are also able to choose between four different factions to join, but there are some plans to add more later on.

One of the unique features of this game is that the origin story behind this chaos is not revealed from the get-go of the game. Instead, it was released little by little as the game expanded with more players online. The actions of the players and the balance of the factions actually had an effect on the game world.

The game also has different game modes, so you'll be able to choose whether you play on a free mode with a pen map and exploration. The PvP mode will have you teaming up and facing other players in matches. The cooperative mode expands on the main story of the game, revealing the plot and secrets behind what's going on with the world.

A well-known team

As we mentioned before, the team behind Survarium has a lot of experience, as they are the ones behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Other developers from GSC Game World also went ahead and created the Metro franchise after GSC broke up. These teams are already well experienced in FPS games, we've seen this in the past and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. already had a well-established fanbase.

Survarium is a great FPS game, and it is more than anything else an interesting game idea. But there are some issues in the way they executed this idea. The main progress of the game depends a lot on the players and the way they interact with the game, however, if the flux of players is low, the game doesn't progress. It required a lot of traction which it simply didn't get. Making the entire game experience feel as if it is still in development. Aside from this, it is a pretty solid game.
